Well, despite everything people say about changing the motherboard or anything else, I managed to get around it another way.

At startup, you’ll be prompted to press F12 for "Boot Setup".
Do it, then go to "Hard Disk", and launch the hard drive (first choice in the list). It's been working for me since.

if DMA is Direct Memory Access, is DMI the same as Interrupt (cf IRQ)? That would explain that if we run with two HDDs and the boot sector is modified by the "master" under scandisk: the machine crashes, long live the registry backups to recover everything but = loss of time

* BOOT FROM ... ... DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

1) Check in the boot menu, at startup press Esc, F1, F2, DEL and other keys depending on your hardware, that the boot order of your hardware (boot sequence) is correct. Normally: 1 = hard disk (HDD), 2 = floppy disk, and 3 = CD-ROM.
Try restarting.
2) If not, go to Windows (on the affected computer), open Explorer, insert a blank floppy disk into the drive, right-click on the floppy drive and choose format by checking "Create an MS-DOS startup disk."
3) Restart the computer using this floppy disk, under "A:\" type "sys c:" (without quotes) which will bring your "system" files to the root of your hard disk. Restart.
4) If still not working, do the same, start from the floppy disk and under "A:\" type "fdisk/mbr" (still without quotes). Restart.

* If the computer still does not behave properly, continue to search the web or consult a specialist in a store. Don't forget to share the tip if successful to help those who are struggling for the same reason!

A problem that's roughly similar could be due to a small electric shock. I have an Athlon 1333 and an MSI motherboard with 400 Mo of SDRAM 133 and a Phoenix Award BIOS version 6.  I've tested everything that was suggested in the forums (this one and many others) but unfortunately, I'm at a loss. BIOS reset with jumper and battery removed, no change, removing components, same result. Tomorrow, I'm changing the motherboard battery unless I decide to completely replace the motherboard. I'll check with my favorite dealer and I'll get back to you tomorrow (bad luck, today is Monday, and as we all know, real troubles always happen on days when the stores are closed).  See you later.

When this message appears, it means that it is checking which device it should use to start the system... Hello,  I just got a computer without an OS. I tried to install Mandrake. From there, I was asked to repartition the disk. I chose custom partitioning. I had a problem with my old PIII 650, I simply went into the setup and restored the default setup configurations => Default Bios or Setup. (usually, in all setups there is an option for that!)

Then the PC restarted normally!

Hello everyone,  I have two small thoughts regarding the "DMI Pool Data" problem:  If it involves a complete reinstallation, with disk formatting, and you are using a "cracked" XP PRO, forget it, that's ZE specialty.... Try it with 98 or 2000 otherwise.  Then, try resetting your BIOS by changing the battery for a new one (usually type 2032 button). HOWEVER, when changing it, leave the motherboard powered off for at least 5 minutes, meaning without a battery or power cord, or battery (for laptops).  Boot from C if there's an OS, otherwise, from the CD ROM for a proper reinstall.  There you go! ;-)

Hello  Thank you for your contributions that helped me a lot. I had this issue of getting stuck on "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." after installing a "large" hard drive on my computer.  For your information, I managed to get through: 1) by flashing the BIOS of my motherboard (ASUS A 7N8X-X) (file and instructions very well done on the ASUS website) 2) By rebooting my computer with a system disk (Win 98 retrieved from http://optimisersonpc.free.fr/download.html#boot) 3) By going to my BIOS on startup to reactivate the default configuration 4) by typing "fdisk /mbr" (without the quotes) 5) by launching fdisk to activate the main partition 6) by restarting the computer without the disk but with the Windows XP installation CD  Never let yourself be discouraged ultimately (I ended up spending 6 hours changing this hard drive...)

I encountered the same problem during a machine reinstallation. I replaced the hard drive where my Windows was and tried to reinstall on another drive. When I restarted, after the Windows installation files were copied, I got stuck on verifying DMI pool data. I settled for a console boot (booting from XP CD + "option" repair) and with a little:  fixmbr then fixboot, the problem was resolved.  I hope this can help some of you.

Hello everyone, I had this problem this morning after installing a graphics card (the previous one was on the motherboard)... I blamed it, even though the display was working since the famous message was coming up! Hello The thing is, when you have the verifying DMI pool data message, it means you have turned off your computer for too long and either the memory battery has drained or you have lost all the data from your BIOS => data stored in a chip to give the various boot directives for the PC.  In short, you need all the boot disks for every PC made before the P III.  Otherwise, you need the CD of the motherboard (ASUS, ASRock, etc.).  After that, everything is taken care of by the Windows or Linux installation CD.  But sometimes the verifying pool data is linked to  "I disassembled my PC and I didn't reconnect everything properly."  Otherwise, when starting your PC, enter the boot menu by pressing F1, F2, F4, or check what your PC says for entering the BIOS  and there you have to search manually, good luck, it's in English. Hi  So actually I had the same problem, but all my components were properly connected. In the end, by asking the BIOS to boot from the Windows XP CD, I went to the "Repair" option which took me to a command prompt. There, I had to ask for bootcfg /scan (boot configuration) and since it didn't return anything, I had to do a fixboot and fixmbr still on HDD 1 (To be really sure, do a CHKDSK anyway) and now it works  See you++

Your old PC has a memory battery to keep or save the BIOS data "DATA," but you've lost your battery: I want to specify that it's either dead or discharged, which is likely due to the fact that the PC has been turned off for a long time.  The best thing to do at startup is to press "F2" by tapping the key at the top that usually doesn't do anything. If that doesn't work, try "F8, F10, or F11," and when you're in the BIOS, manually reload all the internal data of the PC... there you go.  If it fails again, change the battery!!! and try again. If it still doesn't work, get a new PC; this one is dead (a new one costs around 350 euros just for the CPU, and the peripherals don't change).

Hi everyone, after spending the day on my father's PC and getting the famous "DMi Boot" message... and constant restarts, I removed the flat battery (button cell) from the motherboard, unplugged the power supply, turned the PC on without connecting the plug, then put everything back together except the battery and everything went back to normal!!!!! Maybe it's not necessary to flash the BIOS! It's not something to take lightly!! Most of the time, it's a hardware issue: if you're sure you haven't left anything in your drives and after checking the BIOS, disconnect the peripherals one by one and reboot the PC. Once the faulty peripheral is isolated, check the cables and connections. Everything should go back to normal.

It happened to me and to fix this problem: - Take Gparted and remove all your partitions and reinstall Windows. If you have this problem, it's because you created a boot partition with Linux, and you damaged the grub with Windows   (It happened to me because of the grub from Fedora)

After that, my computer restarted and that's when I realized my mistake; when it turned back on, it was with Windows XP! even though I was using Vista! As I said, it was only after that I saw what date it was: just before I bought it! Once it was open, the software from earlier opened up and started loading something I don’t know what... I panicked and (like a ... big idiot) unplugged it. When I turned it back on, it showed me (same old tune): Verifying DMI POOL DATA and it's still there!  If anyone has a solution to my problem, I would be very very... grateful. Thanks in advance.

It can also come from a USB drive that's been left in... I had this problem and just by removing the drive, it disappeared!

Hello. I have a similar problem. I recently changed the graphics card (Gt220) and added 2GB of RAM to my parents' PC. The reboot went smoothly after installing the drivers. The next day, my sister tells me that the PC gets stuck on the famous: Verifying DMI pool data and ... then nothing. I tried changing the boot priority order, resetting the BIOS to default, but nothing worked. I see that they recommend flashing the BIOS. But how do you do that with a PC stuck at startup without access to Windows? Thank you.

Check if everything is properly clipped inside the PC, blow it out with compressed air, and retest!

Hello everyone!!! I have the same problem on my computer - yet it works fine no matter what I do - I’m subscribed to Micro Hebdo - it seems that the question has been asked before. They say this: "verifying dmi pool data" is a cryptic message indicating a hardware issue that can often be resolved in the BIOS settings, usually related to the use of wireless keyboard and mouse, which the BIOS might struggle to interpret due to the wireless detector. If that’s all it is, then it’s not serious - except that I haven’t managed to fix my problem in the BIOS because I can’t find how to disable the USB mouse support in the BIOS. Thank you for your help - and I’m looking forward to your posts. For those whose problem is more complicated (Vista and W7), you can try restarting from a CD to launch an MBR fix from the repair console. At least, that’s what Micro Hebdo says. Make sure to remove all USB connections and/or memory cards from all drives, including the printer’s. Good luck everyone!!!!

Hello everyone.  I stumbled upon this topic after a search on our dear friend Google.  You may have guessed it, my PC boots gets stuck on the same message.  But if I set the hard drive as the first in the boot sequence, it boots well from the hard drive.  The problem is that I can't boot from a CD-ROM and therefore I can't reinstall Windows 2000 Pro after changing my motherboard to a Gigabyte GA-6BXDU with 2 Pentium III 533 MHz.  As for the USB ports, that's fine, they are disabled; the keyboard and mouse are PS/2, and the configuration is at a strict minimum: 1 hard drive, 1 CD-RW drive, a graphics card in AGP like the Voodoo, 64MB of RAM in PC100.  So if someone has a solution, I'd be grateful, thank you in advance.  P.S.: I downloaded (with another PC) a BIOS for this motherboard. How do I install it (maybe that will solve the problem)? -- Human error is common, but stupidity is too. We can always avoid mistakes, but it's harder to avoid stupidity. ;-)

For my part, I solved the problem simply by setting the CD-ROM as the first choice in the boot sequence.  Previously, I only had the hard disk (I activated the floppy and CD-ROM drives as needed).  But what’s strange is that the problem was random; it didn’t happen all the time. And yet, all my devices are working perfectly.  If that can help.

I had the same problem, unable to start: Verifying DMI Pool Data
I took out the hard drive and mounted it as a slave (check the jumper at the back) on another computer (running XP), connected without securing it.
I started the computer, it recognized the slave drive, detected bad sectors, and recovered from critical errors.
I shut down the computer, removed the slave drive, and reinstalled it as the master on the first computer; the restart went smoothly and I recovered everything.

you will need to restart from the bootable CD and use the command named FIXMBR from the Windows XP recovery console if you are running Windows XP  When the window appears, type the following command: fixmbr
