Incorrect image

Solved
Good evening everyone,

I'm deciding to post a topic because I've browsed through the existing ones (and this has helped me solve some of my problems, thank you!), but now I can't seem to find a topic that offers a working solution...

So here it is, the issue that remains after an infection is a message that appears consistently when launching an app:

[application name].exe - Incorrect image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\systems.txt is not a valid Windows image. Please check with your installation disk.

I click OK and everything works fine.

But it also happens when Windows launches an app itself, and especially at Windows startup, where it triggers around fifty times! My mouse button is hurting!

Spybot, AdAware, SUPERantispyware, Kaspersky find very little to say about it....

It seems to have happened to me with another file instead of systems.txt, but I don’t have that one... I should add that to solve my previous problems, I used ZebRestore, SmitfraudFix, and Navilog.... (I felt like I was playing with fire but in the end it sorted things out)

So if anyone has seen a topic discussing this, or better yet, a personalized solution for me... thank you in advance!!

Ciaociao

                1. I confirm, without waiting for the result of the panda scan, I no longer have the incorrect image problem that was causing my issue.

I'm still waiting for the scan result to celebrate victory, but thank you very much philae83 for your help, I didn't think I would solve the issue this evening!!!

Regarding WinterChallenge, I'm scanning it online but given its size (640MB!), I think I'll just delete it instead..

                  Thanks again for this help!!!!

                  Ciaociao

If you have no problem with it, keep the "I have nothing against him, I simply don't know him."

You're right, but still wait for the end of the scan, since you're at it, you might as well finish it.

There are still some things lying around.... yet Kaspersky saw nothing. I will run a scan again.

I ran SpyBot and Adaware, they found some things, which I removed.

I should add that CCleaner detected a lot of things that are not right in the "Registry Integrity" section, should I repair the errors?

                      Thank you in advance.

                      Ciaociao

                        Good evening,

as for the things found by the online scan
nothing serious, <these are the tools we used

                        delete

                        C:\Documents and Settings\Olivier\My Documents\New Folder\Process.exe
                        C:\Documents and Settings\Olivier\My Documents\New Folder\restart.exe
                        C:\Documents and Settings\Olivier\My Documents\SmitfraudFix.zip
C:\Documents and Settings\Olivier\My Documents\Zebrestore\BackUp -----delete the backups from zebrestore.
                        C:\Program Files\Navilog1
                        keep this one
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sprinter.exe delete that one as well

I should add that CCleaner detected a bunch of issues in the "Registry integrity" section, should I fix the errors?

you have to be careful with CCleaner, personally I don't recommend it for beginners

how is your PC performing now?

                        1. Hi,

Okay, I deleted everything. By the way, why do I need to delete these files? They were the ones that saved me and now I'm getting rid of them?

                          No worries, don't touch CCleaner...

As for my PC, everything's great!! It's back to its 20 years!! It's all happy, it's buzzing with excitement...

                          Once again, a thousand thanks!!!!

                          ciaociao

Why do you want to keep them? Your PC is clean now, and these are utilities that are updated very regularly; sometimes there are updates every day. They won't be useful to you now. If you needed them again, you'd need to know how and when, and you'd have to re-download them to get the latest versions.

                            Have a good evening
