Problem with my Scott mdx i62 hi-fi system

Hello everyone,

Here I am exposing my problem with my Scott MDX i62 stereo system that I bought for Christmas. About 5 months ago, no audio CDs (and not DVDs as I am not interested in that function of the system) would play, there was a message saying "Disc Error" or something like that. I decided to call the repairman, but before that, I wanted to check that the problem was still present and when I tried to play the CD, there were no problems! My family and I concluded that it was probably just some dust in the player. Anyway, now I want to play a CD and the same "Disc Error" shows up... there is only one CD that plays, "Mano Negra - King of the Bongo". I looked at the formats supported by the system: CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, MP4, DVD-R, DVD-RW, xVID and compared it with my CDs but nothing is indicated. So I come to my questions:
¤ Can someone please confirm the formats?
¤ Has anyone had a similar problem and could help me?
¤ Do you have any advice to help me solve this issue as I am not very knowledgeable about hi-fi systems?

Thank you in advance to those who will help me,
Have a great day
Mory

I received my repaired hi-fi system today. It seems to be working well, but for how long?
On the other hand, there were no explanations included with the package. I don't know what the issue was or where it came from. That said, since it's still under warranty, I didn't pay anything. They did include the invoice so that I could see how much the repair would have cost me, and I can't believe it: €80 and some change including tax.
As for Mogwai, I think it's pointless to have it repaired if you are no longer under warranty, given that at that price, it would be better to buy a new system from a different brand.

Well well, it was too good to be true... it just broke down on me at this very moment! I'm fed up with this crap (excuse my language), and on top of that, the warranty has expired this time.

I stopped worrying about this nonsense a while ago.
If I have any advice to give you, it's to use it with a portable CD/MP3 player connected via AUX (that's what I did). Otherwise, a DVD/DivX player, there's nothing to be done...

I have the same issue with this drive, except that no disc plays anymore, whether it's a CD or a DVD, burned or not...
It's no longer under warranty, so I don't know what to do...
I'm open to any information if there's something we can do.

    Thank you

    Hello,

I bought it at AUCHAN, but unfortunately, the warranty must have ended just a month ago...

I read on other forums that the drive belt of the player is fragile, so I think I will try to open it up to check and at least dust everything off if that's not the case.

If you have any feedback on the warranty, let me know...

    Thank you.

    Mogwai.

Indeed, I just bought a new CD, and it doesn't work either...
I am still under warranty so I will report it.
    Where did you buy it?

    Have a good day.

Thank you for the valuable info.
I bought it online myself, GrosBill.com. But there's a store in Lyon so I'm going to drop by.

    To be continued ;-)

        Hello,
This mini chain is garbage. The optical block is terrible and keeps failing. I bought 2, both went for repair service, and now it’s happening again. So I'm throwing it away, brand to avoid.

Since today I have a problem with this device as well; yesterday I was still watching DivX or DVDs. And now it won't play anything anymore, neither DVDs nor DivX.
I don't understand what is happening.
Is it possible that it is a virus?
Because I have a PlayStation 3 and last week I was reading DVDs and DivX, and then suddenly nothing worked, so I took my PlayStation to the repair service. To still be able to watch DivX, my parents lent me this device, and now it also won't play anything. Is it possible that there is a connection between the two or not?
    Can you help me?
    Thank you.

There is no miracle solution, I've looked into everything that could fix the problem and the only solution is to use this chain with a USB key or an auxiliary and that's it...
I won't be fooled again especially since it cost me nearly 200 bucks and exactly 1 year after the purchase (no more warranty) it's ruined!!!

There you go, you have to fall to know if it hurts...

      Scott... TO BE AVOIDED!!!

My stereo system is in for service, I'm going to see if they replace it or give me a different model... it's clear that Scott is a brand that's worthless, and like Mogwai, my stereo system cost me just under €200.

I tested it yesterday, it's a good tip even though at that price I would have preferred to just buy speakers.
Thank you very much for the advice. For DivX and DVDs, indeed, it's doomed.
I wish you a happy new year while I think of it, and I'll come back if I have any news.

Hey, you're scaring me here, it's my son's birthday today (12 years old) and I just bought him this Hi-Fi system.......Help, are there at least some people who are happy with it? It will be unwrapped in a few hours, let's hope there are no problems.

    Hello,

Without wanting to crush your hopes, I don't think it's a number that will make a difference unless.
Still, I hope your son can fully enjoy his hi-fi system ;-)

    Have a great day

Well, at Fred 40, you got taken like I did.
1 chain i65 (it's exactly the same as i62 except for the buttons) at Cora, optical block replacement under warranty, 8 weeks delay, a big bravo to Cora, supposedly the supplier's fault.
Okay, it works, given what it does, I bought a second one on Top Achat, and it's crackling with an electric sound, it only worked twice. So, I had the serenity option, and I got refunded, but the delay wasn't believable either, it's like they're all useless.
Two weeks after the end of the saga with the second one, the first one fails in the middle of a film (I connect the PC via HDMI) and I know the problem, it's again the optical block. So, I just tried to contact the Scott support in France, but there was no answering machine, and no response because I wanted to ask for a goodwill gesture, free shipping for the part, and I would change it myself.

Anyway, if there's no way, the remaining chain is trash, and Scott is to be banished (it's a shame because it's cheap for what the products are worth).

For info, there's an LG for €150 that should do the same thing with a subwoofer included at Planète Saturn, and I'm hesitating to buy it because LG should be less of a crap than Scott.

(PS. As I'm airing grievances, SFR's Neuf Box customer service is a real bunch of idiots)
And good luck to Kaolane, may it last at least 2 years.

If anyone finds the optical block, please let me know, thanks.

    Hello,

According to what I can read, I have the same problem as teddy.guizon. My hi-fi system had a glitch and I was able to use it for about two weeks. Today, there are cracklings and all that mess! It's hard to fully enjoy my Iron Maiden discography with such terrible sound.

You took apart your hi-fi, personally I don't know anything about it. Would you have a tip to try to remedy the situation?

    Thank you,
    Mory.

No, we didn't understand each other; the buzzing comes from an electrical problem (fire hazard), not from the speakers. But regarding the speakers, it could be a bad connection, the sound could be too low, or the amplifier could be faulty.
    But I'm not a technician.
Try changing the speakers to test where the problem comes from.

Re! After months in the cupboard (laptop via HDMI), I bring out a VCD that plays for 2 minutes and crashes, it stutters.
I wipe it, put it back, and hop, still not working!! I'm going to try to disassemble it, but if it only runs twice, what's the point? Plus, the USB level isn't great either (not enough power).

Problems with a player (at my parents') with the latest DivX, but the staff at Scott FR says the firmware is up to date and that it's because it was manufactured in 2006 (but it was bought much later), so it's an outdated player that hasn't been followed and it's garbage like that, that's settled.

    Overall: Scott isn't great.

      Hello!
I recovered an MDX i62 unit; when I tried a CD, it indicated 'ERROR". I removed the cover and noticed that the CD was not spinning at the correct speed. I took the player off its mount and disconnected all the connections, didn't notice anything abnormal, so I reassembled everything, making sure to push the connectors in properly. I took the opportunity to clean the lens of the optical block. I put a CD back in, and to my great surprise, it was spinning at the correct speed and the sound was excellent. I tried a DVD, same result: the image and sound are perfect. How long will this last? We'll see, according to the forum, it might be brief?
However, I don’t have a manual for this device; how and where can I find one?

I have the MDX i65 for 2 years and 1 month... and it broke down on me two nights ago.

In fact, if I select: usb, card or cd, the cd drawer opens and that's it, nothing happens, I close it, it reopens, and so on... only my radio still works, a radio that costs €150, that's great!

Only 2 years for a system is disappointing, I only used it to listen to podcasts at night while falling asleep, plus it breaks down 1 month after the warranty ends to really make me angry!

    Hello
I have the same issue with my MDX I62 purchased in June 2007, the optical block was replaced under warranty in June 2008 and I have the same problem again today but no more warranty, they want to charge me (very expensively!).
In other words, lifespan is less than 3 years! despite very little use.
Don't let them take advantage of you, send an email or write to the seller or the manufacturer to request repair or compensation. That's what I just did today.
If we are many, it might make them reconsider and make a good decision.

You need to insert the cleaning CD. I had the same problem; I just did it, and it works.

Otherwise, there's 90° alcohol on a cotton swab to pass over the lens =)

Indeed, it's the same problem, except that I only have the radio that works, mine lasted just under 2 years... it's going to end up in the dump...

My mdx i62 completely tripped this morning, showing warning signs already last night. It is about a year old and has been very little used! It no longer turns on; I think the transformer is dead since it was causing interference even to the TV image. In my opinion, I am going to have to definitively erase Scott from my memory.
