convert bookmarks*.json to bookmarks.html Solved/Closed

Hello,

I am on XP.
I installed Firefox 3.
I would like to go back to Firefox 2 to be able to export the bookmarks.
IMPOSSIBLE!

I am searching the web: always the same responses "Just export to HTML".

Well, even after doing
about:config
then browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML;true

we still only find bookmarks*.json!

I found ABC Amber (free) to convert xx.sqlite to xx.html.
But nothing to convert xx.json to xx.html.

Could someone kindly give me a relevant answer.

PS: I am not a beginner in IT....!

Hello everyone, here is the answer to all your anxieties!

I had the same problem after reading various forums and scratching my head, nada, nothing.
Then I thought about the fact that the .json format is not a wml format, html is a derivative, and that's when I found the solution, although I must admit that Firefox wasn't clever about this: your .json file shouldn't be imported by the bookmark system.

Let me explain simply: Firefox/Organize Bookmarks/Import and Backup/Restore/Choose File (select your .json file) And that's it!

if I understood correctly, you want to export the bookmarks F2 vs F3... I did it the following way without any issues: Hi,

look in:
C:\Documents and Settings\«your_name»\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\«number/letter».default

you should see an HTML file named bookmark.html

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem; I only have a json file, but when I try to import it into my Firefox 3.01, it says "unable to process the backup file." Please note that I have reinstalled a new Windows XP Pro.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but it still doesn't work

How can I convert bookmarks from json to html to recover my old bookmarks?

Hello,

on another thread on this same site, I followed the link to the "json2html" site, but I didn't quite understand how to reuse the result from the copy-paste of the json once the button on the site is clicked.

otherwise, there’s a simple solution that can take some time:

open the json with Notepad and press ctrl-F, type "http", click the [next] button (or press the [enter] key), and there, each time isolate the link and copy (or cut)

and paste it into another txt file, it will be more readable.

or else, we will need a nice developer (Mozilla or others) who would be willing to make a little software that does that automatically!! (a little regexp in the code on the side!)
or a batch script but well, a GUI works better for a newbie!!

I followed the "export to HTML" procedure and it worked perfectly except for the order because it starts with my uncategorized bookmarks whereas I would have preferred my personal toolbar to be first.

Hello

Perhaps another reason for the disappearance of bookmarks: the removal of Java from your computer.
Reinstall Java after downloading it (from the Sun Microsystems website or elsewhere) and restart your PC.
Launch Firefox. In the "Bookmarks" menu, go to the "Organize Bookmarks" submenu, then "Import and Backup", then "Restore". Finally, choose your file (it will be in JSON format by default) to restore.

Hi, I have a little problem. I've lost all my bookmarks that I had carefully kept for a year, and I need them for work, but I can't import the .json file; it does absolutely nothing. Additionally, I can't find the "Import and Backup" tab. Help please.

dadou1701,  You should switch to Firefox 3 most likely. In Firefox 2, I also don't have the option that solves the problem.

I finally found my bookmarks.
Info: I'm on Linux.

No matter what I did: Show all bookmarks/Import and Backup/Restore, it indicated that the file was impossible to process. I also tried renaming the .json to .html. That didn't work either.

I found the solution on this page: http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=375422

I closed Firefox. I went to the user folder and found the .mozilla folder (ctrl+h to show hidden folders). I copied the folder "lihfljkdhf.default" elsewhere (if there are multiple profile folders, copy them all), and I deleted the .mozilla folder. Then I restarted Firefox (a new .mozilla folder is created), I closed Firefox again and pasted my backup into the newly created one (blablabla.default). Reopened... restored, and it worked!!! :)
