XP - Explore a 60GB .dd image

Hello everyone,

Here is my problem. A friend's laptop hard drive had a major issue and stopped working.
Explorer crashing, etc... I tried to browse it with recovery tools, but the results were limited because disk access was very difficult.
I then used the Testdisk utility suite (https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
The only thing that worked was creating a disk image.
I now have a 60GB image of the hard drive in .dd format.
I could replicate it onto another HD, but I would prefer to browse this image to possibly recover the only data I’m interested in.
However, I can't find any free utility that does that. The only thing I found is "P2 eXplorer."
But first, my antivirus goes off in every direction during the installation. And if I disable it and finish the installation, nothing happens. The HD doesn't appear in my explorer.
I suspect this has to do with the size limitation of NTFS or something like that.
If someone could give me a solution to explore/mount this image so I can extract the files I need, that would be great.

The initial solutions I've found:

1- Use a bootable Linux CD (like Knoppix). But will I be able to mount the external hard drive and then mount the .dd image? Possible? Difficult? Will I need third-party software?

2- Use a software that would explore the .dd (but which one????)

3- Create a Ghost and use Ghost Explorer

4- Use my Mac Mini?? (why not, right!?)

    Old digging, 7-zip does a great job of reading and extracting files from a .dd image :)

    For those who come across this topic later:
    The P2 Explorer software doesn’t work because it is limited until I purchase it ($200, so... no).

    Thank you very much, Tirhen.
    I have already received a response from the TestDisk programmer. Very good support for donation-based software.
    I personally resolved my issue in another way, thanks to the responses given by the programmer.
    I connected my damaged HD to my Mac Mini and there... Joy of Unix, I was able to recover a maximum of data.
    I'm glad I kept my OSX partition on this Mac Mini :)

    I'm still stuck :/
    I have a 120 GB disk image that I open in TestDisk. It opens it as a partition, but then what? How do I read and extract the files?
    I've tried almost all the commands and I still haven't found anything...

    The tutorial shows how to create this image, but I didn't find any information on its "decompression" afterwards. And I only have PCs available :'(

    Use IsoBuster, the trial version is available for free and it will do the job.
