Remote application issue iPhone Solved

Question

Hello,
I downloaded the Remote app from the App Store for my iPhone (official). However, this app works once in a while. 99% of the attempts fail because the library is not found. But it has worked before, so I don't understand what's going on, even disabling the firewall doesn't change anything. The app seems to work whenever it wants.

Are you experiencing this kind of problem?? What is the solution to make it work perfectly every time?? Thank you in advance for your answers which will be very, very valuable to me!

Configuration: Windows XP SP2, McAfee SecurityCenter, iTunes 7, iPhone v2.0 unlocked, not jailbroken

After lengthy searches, I have finally found the solution.
I hope it will be suitable for the other members of this forum, so you need to go to: Edit/Preferences/Sharing tab and check Share my library on my local network and Share the entire library.
I hope these tips will work for you.

Apparently, the web sharing is not activated, but I just noticed something. When I fiddle with the MAC filtering on my Livebox modem (whether I activate or deactivate it, or even when I enter the MAC address of the iPhone into the modem, in short, when I touch it), it works for a while and then nothing. So if I want to be able to use it, I have to go into my modem first; that must be where the issue comes from! But I still find it huge because, as I said, all I need to do is go to that option, deactivate it, reactivate it, and it works!

Gweg', I managed to pinpoint the problem (well, I don't know if it will be the same for you), it might be due to MAC filtering (an option found in your modem/router).

Hello,

My problem is still different.
My iTunes 7.7 detects my iPhone very well, then when I click on it, it asks me for the code but no matter how many times I enter the code displayed on my iPhone, it just keeps asking me again.

As if the code verification between the iPhone and iTunes is not working.

Yet I have no firewall, reinstalled Bonjour and Remote, I'm on the latest version everywhere (firmware 2.0.2, iTunes 7.7, ...)

Any ideas?

On Mac:  Go to "System Preferences" Click on "Security" Click on "Firewall" Select the third option Click on the "+" to add a program Choose "iTunes"  And there you go!

I had the same problem as everyone.
The solution is to go to system preferences, then sharing, and finally in the firewall tab to check the iTunes music sharing.

Good evening everyone,

I have been using the Remote app for a while now, and it works on all my Macs on a WiFi network outside my home.

When I am at home, it no longer works. Since it works outside without changing the settings, the last place where the problem could be coming from is my WiFi router.

That being said, the interface of the router remains very basic, and I cannot change the MAC settings.

Does anyone have a solution for me?

For my part, after successful trials with this application, I no longer have the possibility to use it.
Nothing happens when I enter the code in iTunes, it just beeps and prompts me to enter the code again.
I'm with Free, so I can't manage MAC filtering, and moreover, iTunes is allowed through the Windows firewall...
I don't know what to do anymore!!
Do you have any ideas or solutions?

I found an excellent alternative to remote :)
Go to the website alloysoft.com and download Signal. When you launch it, enter the address given by Signal in Safari on the touch (that's our IP, it seems)... And then you just have to enjoy ;)

I had the same problem as you.

The solution: PC and iPhone/iTouch connected to Wi-Fi on the same local network --> it works every time.

Before that on iTunes: Edit --> Preferences --> Devices --> click on "Remove all remote connections"
Then on the iTouch/iPhone:
1. Reopen Remote
2. Delete the old library
3. Add a new library
4. iTunes recognizes your device as a remote
5. Enter the 4-digit code
6. Wait for the iPhone/iTouch to connect

--> That’s it.

For issues with missing libraries: I thought the remote application was malfunctioning, so I checked the firewalls, deleted the remotes, added a library after deleting the existing one, in short, I tried everything, I was desperate. Then I realized that my external hard drive was turned off, and that’s where the music was copied from. Once reconnected, it worked wonderfully and never crashed again. So to use remote, the music must be present on the iPhone but also on the computer’s hard drive; if you’ve deleted the music on the computer or if it’s on a non-connected hard drive (hence "library not found"), it doesn't work. Otherwise, for the code to enter, you only need to enter it once, just like the Wi-Fi key; you enter it once, then the iPhone is recognized automatically.

I hope I’ve helped some scatterbrains like me who don’t think about the essentials before formatting the hard drive and starting everything over. (lol)

Aaah I had the same problem! Actually, for my part, my PC had the same MAC and IP address as my iPod (I changed it one day) I reset the MAC and there you go, it works!

You just need to enable router mode on your Box (personal: Free)  go to the Free website: Internet / Configure my Freebox router / check enable! (then you need to restart the Freebox to permanently activate the setting) Restart iTunes launch Remote  Nothing worked before this manipulation ;)

Hello, I have read all the previous messages and tried several manipulations but it still doesn't work. I am on Win XP, iTunes is allowed on my firewall, my iPhone is on the same wifi as my PC, the router function of my Freebox is activated, and MAC addresses are not filtered. Hello. My problem is more original than what I've read on the 2 pages My iPhone is recognized, the code is entered, the software works and connects to my library and controls iTunes... the file is being read and the progress bar is moving... EXCEPT that I don't hear anything on the iPhone!!! No sound (of course I've checked the volume level) Any ideas about this problem???

It's normal! Your iPhone here acts as a remote control. It doesn't emit any sound, the app's role is simply to control iTunes installed on your computer remotely. Hoping to have answered your question...

Always the same problem. I am trying in vain to enter the remote code on iTunes, but nothing appears. I am on Mac (Snow Leopard). The code is displayed correctly on my iPhone or iPad, and when I go to "devices", I can see my phone or iPad, but I don’t have anywhere to enter the code. I have a Bbox.  Thank you for your help  Problem solved. I hadn't noticed that a second line appeared below my device on iTunes.

I don't know if my issue is of the same kind as yours, but it strongly resembles it. Having the latest version of iTunes and Remote to date, on a PC running Vista, I cannot connect to my library. My PC is connected to my Freebox via Ethernet, which serves as the router. While once this Vista PC is switched to Wi-Fi, Remote connects perfectly, I suspect that it is not possible to connect when the PC is connected via Ethernet to the box (even if it should be doing its job as a router...)  From there, I tested it on a laptop running Windows 7... whether by Ethernet or Wi-Fi, Remote works perfectly. Thus, I conclude that something in the PC is blocking access to iTunes, but what?! If someone has the same issue as me or has found how to proceed to make it work, I am interested.  Thank you in advance.

Hello,  I struggled a lot, so I wanted to make a little post for those who are still having issues with Remote!  So, in my case, I have my desktop PC with iTunes that I want to control from Remote on my iPhone. My desktop PC is connected to the local network via an RJ45 cable, and the iPhone is connected to the Wi-Fi of my Netgear Numericable box.  I had the issue of the library being unreachable from the iPhone, even though iTunes detects the iPhone and asks for the code.  After thorough analysis using Wireshark, I found that the communication between the iPhone (over Wi-Fi) and iTunes (over cable) occurs via multicast.  Home routers like the Numericable box don't seem to handle multicast well and don't transmit the multicast IP packets correctly.  To fix the issue, I added a Wi-Fi dongle to my desktop PC (which is now connected via Wi-Fi + cable), and the Remote app works fine now.  To summarize, if your desktop PC is on the wired network and your iPhone is on Wi-Fi, you might encounter issues related to your modem/router that poorly manages the transmission of multicast packets from the wired network to the Wi-Fi network...  I hope I was clear enough :)  Take care!

I have exactly the same problem! My iPhone connects whenever it wants. However, my firewall is off, and I'm with Telenet (Belgian internet provider). I have tried almost everything suggested on this forum, but nothing works. I also want to point out that I have the same problem with Rowmote (also an app that serves as a remote control for my MacBook Pro) and also with my printer that works via Wi-Fi; sometimes it finds it, sometimes it doesn't. It's really strange, yet I never have a connection loss on my MacBook Pro or anything like that. I want to emphasize that I've had these problems since my Belgian internet provider (Telenet) came to change my modem. Could it be that the issue comes from modified settings on that?

Hello everyone  I had the same problem, namely that I couldn't get the remote application to work with iTunes (I couldn't see my iPhone appearing in the list of Wi-Fi devices).  I solved it quite simply by updating the firmware of my Netgear router.  To do this, I went to the Netgear website, downloaded the latest firmware for my DG834 v3 router: the download will be a .img file, then you need to access the router by typing its IP address - 192.168.0.1 in my case, then enter the username and password (written on the router), and then go to router upgrade and select the .img file  After that, the iPhone appeared like magic in the list of devices in iTunes!  Hope my solution will be helpful to you.

Personally, it was my firewall that was blocking the sharing.  Even though I had added iTunes as an exception in the firewall...  Try disabling the firewall!  Sorry for digging up old topics, but it might help some people! ;)

Here is my solution:  Connect your iPad (iPhone, iPod) to your computer using your USB cable.  Open iTunes and as soon as you see your iPad in the left column, under the list of devices, open the Remote app. You will automatically see your library in Remote. You can then connect to it. Give it a try.  From now on, you can unplug your iPad from your computer and the Remote app will reconnect to your library without any problems.  I hope to have helped some of you.
