Hello,
I want to try to put some boxes from GTA Vice City. I managed to do it on San Andreas, but I can't do it on Vice. There's an error message that says "too big". Is there another tool besides imgtool? Thanks.

re it’s good I found the solution and thanks to Hiro the solution is
Install a vehicle in GTA Vice City
Software used: IMG-Tool 1.3
1. Backups:
First of all, it is important to make a copy of the files you are going to replace.
Make a copy of the files gta3.img, gta3.dir located in the models folder of Vice City (C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models\) and the data directory (C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data\).
2. Installing the vehicle:
2.1 - In this example, we chose to install the "Ferrari" replacing the "Cheetah".
First, unzip the files contained in ferrari.zip into a folder of your choice.
Once the files are unzipped in the folder of your choice, you should end up with something like this.
- Cheetah.dff: 3D model of the vehicle
- Cheetah.txd: textures of the vehicle
- Setups.txt: txt file containing various information about the vehicle, possibly installation help.
2.2 - To be able to add a vehicle without errors, you need to remove the read-only attribute from the files gta3.img and gta3.dir. To do this, simply right-click on these two files, as well as handling.cfg and default.ide, then choose "Properties" from the context menu and uncheck the "Read-only" option.
This is the only time you will have to perform this operation.
2.3 - Start the IMG Tool software and open the file gta3.img (C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\models\gta3.img).
We are looking for the files: cheetah.dff and cheetah.txd (originals from the game)
You can sort the list alphabetically to make your search easier by going to Tools>Sort>Name.
Once the files are found, select "cheetah.dff" for example, then right-click on it and choose "Rename" (to make a copy of the original) and rename it for example: cheetahbackup.dff.
Do the same operation for the file "cheetah.txd".
Now we are going to add the Ferrari, for that go to: Commands>Add, find the .dff and .txd files of the car to install (here cheetah.dff and cheetah.txd) and then click "Open".
Check that all the files have been correctly installed, then do Commands>Rebuild Archive and click Yes.
Your gta3.img file will be rebuilt, a progress percentage will appear at the bottom.
2.4 - The text file may sometimes contain indications to modify the vehicle characteristics. The most important is the line to replace in the handling.cfg file:
It can look like this:
CHEETAH 1660.2 2.00 4.50 1.40 0.00 0.10 -0.30 70 1.30 0.89 0.50 5 291.20 29.00 R P 11.10 0.48 0 24.50 2.00 0.20 0.25 0.54 105000 0.15 -0.06 0.50 0.30 1000187 0 0
It must replace a line starting with the same name in the handling.cfg file (C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data\handling.cfg).
However, it is not recommended to modify the default.ide file, as it generally causes the game to crash.
3. You just have to start GTA Vice City and then look for the replaced car.
If the car doesn’t please you, or if the game crashes, you can uninstall it, proceed to step 4.
4. Uninstallation
To uninstall the vehicle we just installed, simply look for the two files: "cheetah.dff" and "cheetah.txd" in IMG-Tool and delete them (Commands>Delete).
Once these two files are deleted, look for "cheetahbackup.dff" and "cheetahbackup.txd", and rename them to their original name. Finally, don’t forget to rebuild gta3.img by doing "Commands> Rebuild Archive".
5. Bugs and slowdowns
If after adding new cars, you find that the game lags in some places, feel free to defragment your hard drive. (To do this, right-click on your hard drive, choose "Properties", then in the "Tools" tab choose "Defragment now...").
In case of random bugs due to numerous vehicle installations, don’t hesitate to restore your backup files (made in step 1). If problems persist, reinstall the game.
Good luck with the s8 and enjoy it all. -
