Problem changing cartridges Epson DX7450

Hello, I received an Epson Stylus 800 printer but it doesn't print. As it hasn't been used for a long time, I assumed the cartridges were dry, but I can't find the utility for this printer! It installed itself with my XP, but when I right-click on "Printers and Faxes" and go to print options, I only get a window with "Layout" and "Paper Quality," no utility to clean the nozzles, check cartridge levels, etc. I also can't get the carriage to position itself to remove the cartridges. I managed to remove the black one by forcing it a bit; I filled it with a syringe, but it seems full, so... and every time I turn on the printer, it makes a whole lot of back and forth; I feel like it's doing cleaning or a check that I didn't ask for... but still nothing on the paper! Thank you if you have a solution, I'm a blonde and not an expert either.
I tried to install the driver provided, but I get an error message at some point.

Actually, it's not that complicated, but it's true that it's not intuitive at all and especially VERY frustrating when you don't know.
So don't try to change your cartridges by pressing random buttons on the machine, just like you shouldn't follow - and this is ironic! - the instructions in your user manual that say anything. Don't give your printer or keyboard heavy hammering punches either: it's very tempting but quite ineffective too.
What you need to do after you've torn out some hair and landed on this saving post is to start a print job. Either a document that's as light as possible, because in the end, it will give you your print and waste your ink, or the document you originally wanted to print before you realized, oh my god, that there's no more ink in that damn €60 cartridge.
At that point, Epson tells you what you already know: that indeed, you have no more ink in that cartridge, and - they don't lose their way - you can buy a new one online: tell them to shove it! And please, if you don't do it for yourself, do it for me. After this little secret joy, THE SIMPLEST THING IN THE WORLD, follow the replacement procedure that appears on your screen, and, oh miracle, your printer next to you reacts immediately!! and the damn reserve wood places itself just right to open the little cover.
There you shake your new cartridge without putting your finger-filled hands on the pretty green chip, and you replace the dead one as they tell you.

For your information, I'm on WINDOWS VISTA. For XP, I don't know if it's the same, but I think it shouldn't change much.

ptitenana, maybe your cartridge is improperly installed.
otherwise try this:

For Windows 7:
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the printer, go to Print options, then Utility, click on the icon: Change Cartridge and follow the instructions....

Same problem for me, on Windows 7, but there is no utility box... can you help us? Thank you.

Where is the paper loading button???

My technique is to unplug the printer at the right moment when the cartridge holder is moving from side to side during the startup, with the lid open. Be careful, this could definitely damage the printer, but at least it's not a hassle!
