Problem: When the cursor deletes

Hello,
I'm explaining my problem: every time I type on AbiWord, I sometimes forget or make a ton of spelling mistakes. So I place the cursor where the mistake is, and when I rewrite, the text deletes itself as I type on my keyboard, replacing everything. I end up having to leave it as it is or restart the entire text. I can't find a way to turn off this automatic deletion.
What should I do? Thanks in advance.
