Hi Pika no mi (since you are the last one to have asked the question)
You have solutions in all these answers, but it's better to make a summary!
The most radical solution: throw your PC in the trash and buy a Mac, it's day and night! Problem: the cost of the operation!
Indeed, formatting the PC and installing Linux instead of Windows is also very effective, but be careful: some programs (especially games) do not work with Linux. And if you want to keep your data...
The most effective, without being radical, is to change your memory stick or to add one (recent PCs have 2 memory slots and often only one is used originally). Know that you can put more than 1GB (I have 2 times 2GB and it flies!!) and you don't have to use the same capacities (for example, 1GB and 2GB)
A very simple solution: unplug your PC, open it, and remove all the dust while being careful not to unplug anything, using a cotton swab for example (it seems silly but I did it on my wife's PC and she couldn't believe it: it became silent, faster and almost never crashes).
They are all right to say that adding a program is not a good solution. It's as illogical as eating more to lose weight. I’ve tested a bunch, including Tune Up, and it’s not that effective. What it does—removing programs—you can do manually. It will take you longer than it does, but at least you won't be adding anything to your PC.
Finally, nothing beats a good defragmentation and a good disk cleanup to help it breathe!
If you have Windows XP (or older), look at the bottom right of your taskbar, and if there are a lot of icons, go to your control panel and remove everything that is not really necessary for your PC's activity.
You can also replace Internet Explorer with Mozilla (free) which is a bit faster in file processing but mainly it doesn’t crash!
There you go, hoping I answered your question correctly.
