COLOR TEXT PAINT

Hello,
I am using Windows XP.
With PAINT, I want to type colored text on a black and white image.
So far, it worked and now the text displayed in red, for example, turns gray when I finalize it!
How can I fix this even by meticulously following the help section?

    Hello, try to save this image as jpg, bitmap, and PNG, close Paint, then reopen it and see if you can add colors.

    You just need to select the color of your text in the color bar!!
