Good evening,
This is the third or fourth time I’ve repeated myself, but the problem is still here: my PC (HP Pavilion dv5000) runs slowly. The disk memory is more than enough, my antivirus ( Avast!) ran a thorough scan and found nothing, and I can’t perform a system restore… Indeed, when I press the F8, F10, or F12 key, the result is the same: I access the Phoenix BIOS installation utility instead of reaching my system restore service…
First, could someone tell me what this utility is because I don’t see what it does on my PC!
And then I’d like to know why it’s there and how I could restore my system…
Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.14

Not even in Safe Mode? Is System Restore enabled — if you right-click on Computer, go to Properties, then System Restore, is it enabled? Otherwise I don’t really see what kind of problem it is.
Anyway, I’m going to bed now. -
Yes, the restoration is indeed enabled, I checked. I also tried to do it in Safe Mode but the problem remains the same! And when I tried to format my hard drive, an error message appeared:
"Windows cannot format this drive. Quit all disk utilities or other programs using this drive and make sure no window displays the drive's contents"
I don't understand why because I have no program running and I only have one session!
Anyway, thanks! -
Hi, what have you done with your PC recently? Have you installed any BIOS flashing software? Changed Windows settings, installed new software?
And about Avast, it's not one of the best right now, maybe you should try another, free option you also have Antivir which works well. -
No, I haven’t installed anything... I don’t even know what BIOS is, and I’ve never touched Windows’ settings...
Besides, a few months ago I had other problems with my computer and I took it to a computer repair shop; they tinkered with some things and did a full reconfiguration of Windows, could that be it? -
Ask what he did to you; he didn’t touch the startup (disabling safe mode access, etc.), to verify...

I don’t have access to Safe Mode, but it’s true that I can’t restore my system. In fact, I can’t access the program!
