Hello,
Here is our problem. My husband is a teacher and uses PowerPoint a lot in his field to present his lessons. At the high school where he teaches, there is no MS OFFICE installed, only OPENOFFICE for financial reasons.
PowerPoint is essential for him, so we were wondering how to have an official version of MS OFFICE 2007 on an external hard drive that would be active when he connects it to the PCs at his school. Does he need to install a version of Windows (the same as on the main PC) on the external hard drive where he wants to have Office installed?
Please let me know if you have a solution to this problem. I tried to install Office on this hard drive, it works as long as I stay on the PC I used to install it; on others, nothing happens :o(
If an operating system needs to be installed, please guide me so I don't mess everything up.
P.S.: He doesn't want to convert all his lessons to the OpenOffice format (too tedious for him) unless a simple solution exists.

the PowerPoint viewer must be installed; it cannot be copied as a portable application (*), but since it is free and open, it can be installed on the machine at school
(*) portable application: it is an application that can be used without being installed on a machine, so it can be carried around, for example on a USB stick. For an application that is not natively "portable," attempting to make it so is a complicated technical operation, and success is not guaranteed. Hello,
Office is too deeply embedded during its installation on Windows to be usable via an external disk outside the PC where it was installed.
If it's just for viewing PowerPoint presentations (not for creating/modifying), Microsoft provides the PowerPoint Viewer software for free: http://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/telecharger 208 powerpoint viewer
Best regards.-
