"Connection Interrupted," he said!?!

Question

Hello,
Several websites show me this page when I try to access them:

"Connection Interrupted," it tells me...
Even though I am still online and the site works fine on another computer of mine!

I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox 3 beta 4
I tried with Internet Explorer 7
No viruses detected by my antivirus (That's another story, but I've wiped out 5 with the Bitdefender Online antivirus o_O nonetheless!)
I have ESET Smart Security (formerly Nod32), including Antivirus, Antispam, and Firewall.
I tried enabling/disabling the 3 security modules but it doesn't change anything.

What I find curious is that I've found only 2 so far (koreus.com and mininova.org) that work for others, otherwise all the other sites I surf are working fine for now...

Could someone give me a procedure to follow?

Hi

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but thinking about the virus for every problem doesn't solve anything.
First of all, what type of connection are you using? (WiFi, Ethernet, USB)
Secondly, is the loading time before this page long?
Since when have you had this problem?
Are you on total unbundling?
Who is your ISP, and is it the same as "the other PC"?

Try to answer all the questions as accurately as possible.

Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from work.

Regarding your issue:
-Try using a wired connection (preferably Ethernet) and see if the problem persists (if you can, of course)
-Clear the cache (tutorial by clicking here
-List the security software you are using (especially the antivirus)

If you want to get ahead, uninstall and reinstall your antivirus: this action will reset your restrictions settings (sites, pop-ups, etc.). I would bet on this solution if the problem doesn’t come from your connection or a virus.

After extensive research;

Steps to follow:
-Go to control panel:
-Network and internet connection
-Network connection
-Right-click on your network connection
-Properties
-Click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP
-Properties
-Check the box "obtain DNS server addresses automatically"

(It's true that life is beautiful) What is your perfect neighbor's ISP? (Orange by any chance?)

New idea:

Ask your neighbor to reboot their box.
At Free, you have to unplug and reconnect it 5 times in a row for a complete reboot (that's something to know, even if it doesn't really make sense)

Also ask your neighbor to test Koreus (before rebooting the box).

It's true that it's quite a challenge.

It's also true that the problem is unlikely to come from your connection

While browsing through some topics with similar issues, I noticed that the solution often involves the antivirus or the firewall.

Which firewall are you using? Have you tried disabling it?
I would recommend installing:
-As a firewall: Zone Alarm or Kerio. Kerio is more efficient than ZA, but ZA is easier to configure, more intuitive. It's up to you to choose.
-As antivirus: Avast

If you are too attached to your software, make sure that parental control is disabled (Especially with Kaspersky)

PS: "Apparently," the Zelda movie might be an April Fool's joke from Koreus.

I've tried many different proxies.. but I'm still having this issue with displaying certain sites, I used koreus as a reference for my tests, but I've found plenty of others since that don't work.

I live in France, so I logically shouldn’t have any limited access to sites..

I'm begging you, please help me >_< If you see an unexplored or perhaps poorly explored lead, don't hesitate to let me know, I would be grateful!

Hi, I think the problem comes from a misconfiguration of the hosts file (probably modified by a program or even a virus, for example). I had this problem.
- You need to edit the hosts file located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for Win XP.
- First, don't forget to make it writable by unchecking the "read-only" option in the right-click > properties.
- Then open the hosts file and check if the website(s) you want to visit are listed in the file.
- If so, you just need to remove the corresponding line in the file and save it.
- Don't forget to set the file back to read-only (by checking the box in properties) after saving (you will probably need to close your web browser).
There you go, I hope I could help some of you.
