Router port configuration issues (UTorrent, Grabit)

Solved

Hello everyone,

I've read many topics and despite that, I can't manage to solve this on my own ^^.
I have a Freebox v4 in router mode (2 PCs), uTorrent 1.6, Grabit 1.7, AVG, Windows firewall
My PCs have fixed IPs (192.168.0.22 and 192.168.0.33), here is my router configuration on Free:

- Freebox IP: 192.168.0.251
- Router enabled
- DHCP: enabled (I've read conflicting information on this... does it really need to be checked?)
- DHCP Start: 192.168.0.1
- DHCP End: 192.168.0.50
- DMZ IP: 192.168.0.0
- Freeplayer IP: 192.168.0.1
- Ping response: disabled
- WOL Proxy (Wake On Lan): disabled
- Port forwarding:
Port Protocol Destination Port
44729 udp 192.168.0.1 44729 (should I use 192.168.0.22 for one PC and 192.168.0.33 for the other?)
44729 tcp 192.168.0.1 44729

Here are my TCP/IP settings for the first PC (the same for the other except for the IP^^: 192.168.0.33):

--- Fixed IP ---
IP: 192.168.0.22
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.251

--- DNS ---
Preferred DNS server: 212.27.53.252 (Free's DNS for Grabit)
Alternative DNS server: 212.27.54.252

The internet connection always works, but the one for uTorrent is limited (speed guide, test if port is forwarded properly) without AVG, without firewall: ERROR
and uTorrent tells me "no Incoming connections"..... not cool
(Grabit isn't working anymore.... I don't know if the problem is related! With my old configuration it worked: Free in router mode, PCs' IP in auto, no default gateway, the same DNS... I don't understand)

There you go, I think I've covered everything, well... let's see! lol

Now it's up to you to help me.... please!!! (my address if needed is: flofoufire@hotmail.com)
Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 2.0.0.12

Good evening Lino, you’re going to make me repeat quite a similar thing, but oh well :)

Here’s how to configure the ports on the Freebox (I don't know about other boxes, but the procedures should be similar)!

First, you need to log in to the Internet service provider's website, identify yourself (ID and password on the sheet sent by the ISP).
Then, there’s an option to activate the box in router mode. At FREE, you need to check the first box...
The DNS are also provided by the ISP.

The process to configure the ports on the Freebox is quite simple.

You must not activate DHCP: necessary to remain on a static IP (especially for local networks and especially for port forwarding). Leave all default settings (except the port forwarding that you need to open, of course):

Freebox IP: default
- router activated
- DHCP: disabled
- DHCP start: default
- DHCP end: default
- DMZ IP: default (I think it’s 192.168.0.0)
- Freeplayer IP: default
- Ping response: disable
- WOL Proxy (Wake On Lan): disable

The settings to change are:
- Port Forwarding:
Port Protocol Destination Port
44729 udp 192.168.0.33 44729 (44729 are examples of openable ports)
44729 tcp 192.168.0.33 44729

I can’t remember the range for the openable Port Forwarding (to be researched again ^_^), but I know that between 44700 and 47700 it works... but the minimum value is around 1500, if I’m not mistaken... to be checked.
You need to open 2 ports with the same number (one in udp and the other in tcp), like this:
44729 udp 192.168.1.33 44729
44729 tcp 192.168.1.33 44729

You need to copy some information in the used network connection: control panel - network connections - local area connection - TCP/IP protocol - properties.

IP address (between 192.168.0.01 and 192.168.0.99, maybe even more than 99)
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0. (and 3 digits: between 2 and 254 at FREE, it may be different with other providers...)
The preferred DNS and secondary DNS are given by the ISP.

You must also open the ports in the firewall exceptions (44729 in the example) in udp and tcp.

PS: it seems that the TCP port isn’t essential for downloads, I activated it as a precaution (even though it makes the computer a bit more vulnerable to virus intrusions…).

I managed to set up a Freebox router configuration that works for uTorrent

I have a Freebox v4 in router mode, an intermediate switch, and 2 PCs with the following software: uTorrent 1.6, Grabit 1.7, AVG, Windows firewall

HERE IS THE SOLUTION:

My PCs have static IPs (192.168.0.22 and 192.168.0.33), here is my router configuration on Free:
- Freebox IP: 192.168.1.251
- Router enabled
- DHCP: enabled
- DHCP Start: 192.168.1.51
- DHCP End: 192.168.0.120
- DMZ IP: 192.168.1.0
- Freeplayer IP: 192.168.1.50
- Ping response: disabled
- WOL (Wake On LAN) Proxy: disabled
- Port Redirections:
Port Protocol Destination Port
44729 udp 192.168.1.22 44729
44729 tcp 192.168.1.22 44729

(for the second PC:
44729 udp 192.168.1.33 44729
44729 tcp 192.168.1.33 44729

Here are my TCP/IP settings for the first PC (same for the second except for the IP^^: 192.168.1.33):
--- Static IP ---
ip: 192.168.1.22
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.251

--- DNS ---
Provided by Free

Remember to add the ports (44729 in udp and tcp) with the IP of PC1 (192.168.1.22) to the Windows firewall of PC1,
ports (44729 in udp and tcp) with the IP of PC2 (192.168.1.33) to the firewall of PC2

uTorrent works:
(Grabit doesn't work anymore.... I don't know if the problem is related! With my old configuration it worked: Free in router mode, IPs of the PCs on auto, no default gateway, the same DNS... I don't understand)

(This configuration might work with 192.168.0.XXX everywhere instead of 192.168.1.XXX but untested, since normally: Freebox + router = 1 (not 0)

FOR FLOFOU

Hi, I would like to leave you my config.
For your box, I think the posts are useful to you.
One thing is certain, there are rules that do not change.

First, you need to open 2 ports, one in TCP, the other in UDP; yes, contrary to my post, you need to open TCP.

For my part, in UDP, as in TCP, I open port 12345. And only these 2, don't give a range of ports to open.

TCP: 12345
UDP: 12345

As for the Windows firewall, being a real sieve, you might use it as a strainer;

Get yourself Zone Alarm Pro so that you can realize all the intrusion attempts you are subject to.

You will then need to configure *torrent" properly for it to be optimal. Depending on the sources, I download around 1M/s...

If you want more help, I'll leave you my email address; pivi4@gmail.com

Have a nice day,

Regards from Pivi

Hi, I'm using µtorrent with Zone Alarm as a firewall.

µtorrent only works with UDP, not TCP. Checked on Zone Alarm.

I open port 12345 in UDP on my router with a fixed IP, and the same on my firewall. (1 port is enough!)

Result, depending on the good servers, I'm downloading between 1 to 2 MB/s...

Hurry up, because when school starts, it might not be the same story...

Happy downloading...

Thank you PIVI, it's cool of you to respond! So I can close the TCP port assigned to uTorrent if I understand correctly? Thanks for your help ^^, my PC will be a little less of a sieve :). Bye!

Hello everyone,
I recently heard about bitTorrent or µTorrent, so I downloaded both, and I figured out how to use this tedious software.. The problem is: for example, on µTorrent, the little ball in the bottom right is red, and the downloads are either very slow, and having some logic in me, I click on that ball. I land on preferences --> network and it asks me for my TCP port and still that famous red ball next to it which says "not connectable"
Below that line, I have a checkbox for "randomize during launch" and next to it a button "randomize now"
Still below, I have another checkbox: "automatically map port (using NAT-PMP or UPnP)

I'm on a Mac, a black MacBook, and I would like my ball to turn green, so that the download is fast :) thanks to you in advance.

Hi, my mistake, we need to open the UDP and TCP ports
However, limit the upload to 112 kb and the download to 0 (unlimited)
Increase the number of clients per torrent to 200 in the bandwidth

You can even use the same number for UDP and TCP: 12345 is a good port.

See you later.
Remember to configure your box with a static IP.
