Keyboard shortcut to insert text Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

I am facing a small problem:
I would like to create a keyboard shortcut to insert a given string into a text field without having to type it out each time.
For example: to be able to insert an email address in a form by simply typing "ctrl alt + e", instead of typing out the entire address each time...
I hope I’m being clear here? o_o

Since I don't want to install any special software, is there a way to do this with Windows?
I suppose I need to create a shortcut to a MS-DOS command line that will generate the string, but... I don't know how to do that!

Can someone help me?

Hum, I didn't explain myself well ;)

I'll try to clarify with an example:
On the internet, we are asked for our email address every five minutes, to register for forums, or as a login, etc...
Let's say I'm tired of typing it every time.
I want to create a keyboard shortcut so that every time I press it, my address gets typed out.
As if we were doing a copy/paste but only keeping the "/paste"

You can create a shortcut to a folder, a program... well, I want to create one for the little piece of text "tartempionne@machin.net"

Is that clearer?

Okay Luciole, now you've really enlightened me. Just in case, you don't want to create a shortcut with your notepad where you would put all your keywords. Ctrl+c Ctrl + v from your notepad.

Well, the thing is what to do:
[notepad shortcut] + [ctrl C] + [ctrl V] (and still, I'm sparing you the + [ctrl A] for "select all" :P)
...
that would take even longer than typing the address X'D!
thanks for your suggestion, but wouldn't it be possible to simply have [keyboard shortcut] = my@address?

In Word, you can use AutoCorrect:

principle:

you create the string of characters that you then select.
you click on Insert, AutoCorrect, New
In the window that opens, replace the string of characters with a simple combination.
Then, in a Word document, you just have to type the combination and press the Enter key for the previously defined string of characters to appear.
I will see if this can work with other software.

In FireFox, I found this:

Create a bookmark (favorite pages)
Purpose: allows you to save the address of web pages:

With the page displayed, click on "Bookmarks/Bookmark this page"
In the window that opens, modify the page name if necessary.
To view the page later, go to "Bookmarks" and select the name of the page to display.

You can also create a shortcut, which avoids going through the dropdown menu:
Go to the "Bookmarks" menu and right-click on the name of the concerned page. Choose "Properties" and in the window that appears, type a keyword and confirm.
Then, in an address bar, simply type the shortcut and confirm to display the full internet address.

I don’t personally use FireFox, but there is a small brochure in the "Micro Skills" series that dedicates an issue to Firefox and Thunderbird (No. 54; price 6 euros). You can find it at kiosks or at the following address:

The email address was just an example of text. I would like to be able to do this with all kinds of words.
and um... she has no problem, except for the fact that it's long to type XD

As far as I can tell, I don't think you'll be able to simply solve your problem since each application has its specificities.

A tip:

Use the Office Clipboard.
Open a Word document and type the string of characters.
Open the Office Clipboard (Edit....), select the string of characters and copy it.
In the clipboard, click on options and check all the boxes.
Save and close the file.
Normally, every time you open a Microsoft document (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), you should see the Office Clipboard icon appear in the notification area.
If there is only one string of characters in the clipboard, a ctrl+v will paste it, otherwise, you will need to open the clipboard.

Here is the real solution: It's the software "Touches Express" from MicroApplication. It's no longer sold but can still be found second-hand.
It works perfectly on Windows XP but unfortunately not on VISTA.

I don't know if your problem is still relevant,
but I think AutoHotKey scripts will solve your issue.

Go to the section: Sending keystrokes and mouse clicks.

This free and open-source software is very handy and quite comprehensive (and not well-known),
and it is especially very well documented (documentation + forum + tutorials + examples ...),
but to give you a summary, you create scripts (from very simple to very complex)
and you execute these scripts, that's it.

Download the latest version of AutoHotKey here: https://www.autohotkey.com/download/
and install it.

Scripts are basically text files, which have an ahk extension (e.g.: InsererMonAdresseMail.ahk),
that consist of instructions and that you execute like a program by double-clicking on them.

First of all, I highly recommend reading the tutorial.

If you are not familiar with programming (as it is),
I advise you to copy/paste the examples provided in a text editor (those from the tutorial),
adapt them to your needs, save them with an ahk extension (for AutoHotKey),
and finally test them (by double-clicking on them) ...

Note: for the text editor, Windows Notepad will do just fine!!!

Sorry, I can't give you more information about the scripts for now, otherwise it won't be beneficial for you!!!
Moreover, you will find a whole bunch of answers to your questions with this software, but you must be curious!!!

I was also faced with the same issue as Luciole, but the answers given did not satisfy me. If it can be of interest to some:
Under Firefox, install the tiny plugin (65 KB) "Signature":

Restart Firefox. Then, in a field, just right-click and choose the signature you want (the signature can be text, an email address ...)
Super easy to use and very practical!
