Hello,

Since this morning my PC shows a blue screen with error 0x000014c and it turns off after 30 seconds. It offers several solutions:

- try again with ENTER but that does not work
- two options with F8 and ESC that do not work
- F1 which takes me to the recovery tab; in this tab and in the BIOS the PC does not turn off by itself.

Could you help me?

    Good evening,

    In Recovery mode

Troubleshooting > Advanced options > System Restore

    Choose another restore point...

Go as far back as possible if it doesn’t heavily affect your installed programs.

If the BCD is corrupted, but the restore doesn’t fix it

From the command prompt, there is a way to rebuild the BCD, but I am not an expert in this specific area.

    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

    Hello,

The solutions I find are more complicated than the ones you have tested.

    see:

But, even though they come from reputable sites, I cannot tell you the best choice, having not experienced this problem.

      Hello,

Since we don’t have access to Windows, the solutions are for the most part not very user-friendly.

By proceeding first by elimination and assuming the failure is not hardware-related, we cannot access recovery or boot sector repair except by booting from an installation USB or by forcing the recovery console by three consecutive hard reboots (battery removed or drained if it’s a laptop).

If the restoration fails and you don’t want to deal with code, it’s just as easy to reinstall Windows over itself from the USB without data loss, in any case it’s more user-friendly.

I will be objected that you need to create the installation USB on another PC if you don’t have one, but anyway for the future you should always have one on hand (with the simplest Media Creation Tool or otherwise Rufus).

Still by elimination, I wouldn’t perform hardware or software diagnostics with Hiren or whatever (and you’ll need another USB) unless the reinstallation fails.
