Dead screen?

My somewhat old screen won't start today. Is there a way to know if it's dead? Thank you in advance.

    It's not necessarily the screen; it could be the computer itself.

    In the first scenario, and unless it's a high-end screen—and even then—it’s not worth repairing, and the only way to be sure is to plug in another one in its place, even if it means temporarily borrowing one from someone.
