Hello

Chromecast is not working anymore.

I have been using it for a long time on my computer and tablet, without any issues.

Today, I cannot access it. It can see the device I named living room but it is offline.

I have unplugged everything and restarted it. No luck.

Any idea?

Thanks

A SSL problem It seems that the problem actually concerns the SSL certificates used by the device. A sort of algorithmic key intended to ensure a secure connection to Google's servers, the certificate hardcoded in the device's software expired precisely on March 9, 2025, at midnight. As a result, the Chromecasts are no longer able to connect to the Internet.

    Hello,

While waiting for the resolution of the certificate by Google (update).

    Chromecast with smartphone:

This is the procedure I followed on a third-generation Chromecast, which is also affected.

    Procedure:

Set your phone's date to a previous date, you can complete the setup with the Google Home app successfully as it thinks the certificate is still valid.

But you may see this message "this device has been previously set up by a different user, please factory reset the device" with a 4-digit code.

    Solution:

Go to Android settings, apps, select Home.

    Force stop.

    Then, delete data and cache.

Change the date from March 4 to March 10.

    Restart the phone.

DO NOT OPEN THE HOME APP WITHOUT RESTARTING FIRST.

Open the Home app and follow the connection steps.

    It should work now :)

    From the Google Chrome browser:

    There is a workaround.

If you have already reset the Chromecast, which Google advises against, try resetting it again; in some cases, this might work while waiting for Google to roll out an update.

This is if you're eager to watch your series or cast the content of your choice; otherwise, patience is in order, but Google should fix this as soon as possible, which is to be hoped.

    Hello,

    March 18, 2025.

    Google has deployed a fix:

The Chromecast outage is now resolved.

The rollout of this update is in progress and may take a few days.

2 scenarios, those of you who have reset the Chromecast and those who have not reset the Chromecast.

    Case #1

Those of you who have not reset the Chromecast.

A simple restart of the Google Home app is enough, from a smartphone.

==► Restart your Chromecast or Google TV Player

    Open the Google Home app.

    Click on Favorites or Devices.

Click on the name given to the Chromecast:

Click on the gear icon (Settings).

Click on the three vertical dots located at the top right.

    Click on Restart.

The Chromecast is now on version 1.56.467165 and version 1.56.467166 for the Chromecast Audio.

    Case #2

Those of you who have factory reset the Chromecast.

    A)

Open the play store on your smartphone.

Type in the search --►Google Home

    Click on --►Update or install

    Then --►Open

    B)

    Uninstall the Google Home app.

    Open the play store

    Search for Google Home.

    Install Google Home.

    Open Google Home.

    Reconfigure the Chromecast.

==► Restore the factory settings of your Chromecast

Section --► Chromecast (2nd generation) or Chromecast (3rd generation).
