Hello,

Indeed, Codes-Sources is no more.

After several years, CCM couldn't maintain the site anymore, which was also losing activity.
While the forum, based on the same model as CCM, managed to get updates, the code repository, on the other hand ...

The webmaster of CCM contacted me in mid-July to discuss the future of the site. After a few discussions and an agreement, at the end of September, I retrieved the site's archive (DB (purged of personal data), images, and sources, but not the source code, which belongs to CCM), and on 2024-10-07 during the day, the site was deactivated (unfortunately without any clearly visible prior warning for users).

Currently, I have already checked the consistency and format of the data in the DB and the attached files, but in 2 weekends, I haven't had time to really figure out how to get the archive online.
As it stands with the files I received, it is impossible for other people unfamiliar with these dumps to exploit them (links between the files/images and the DB are not obvious, and the DB is really "raw" requiring a good understanding of the format to successfully make a query)

Due to my personal commitments currently for October, I think I will have very little time to start even a basic online deployment, but I expect to be able to begin at least a bit in November.
I should clarify that I am a full-time developer; coding in the evenings in addition to the day is not always easy, and on top of that, I also manage/administer/host a Mastodon instance, a comic site (which I update alone), as well as a few other online activities that keep me quite busy on weekends.

Putting the Codes-Sources archive online is one of my priorities, and I hope to have something basic up as quickly as possible to at least allow basic browsing for everyone.

I mainly work in VB6, VB.NET, and C#, but moderation often brings me into other languages.
In VB.NET, remember to enable "Option Explicit" and "Option Strict".

Hello

Yes, Codes-Sources has definitely closed. I don't know if there was a public announcement to indicate it @Adraen StatusAdministrator? (all the messages I've seen were on "non-public" forums)

Maybe @NHenry StatusModerator can give you more info… ;)

Hello Radinoz

The only one I've seen on ccm is in the contrib forum, so it's not visible to everyone:

I thank all the participants in this discussion.

It makes me feel something to see Codes-Sources disappear, which has accompanied me throughout my professional life.

I wish NHenry good luck with the superhuman tasks that remain for him to complete for the migration of the archives, in addition to his work.

Thank you, NHenry.

Hello,

actually, it’s not the source code of the site that I’m looking for, but all the code examples that have been posted on vb6.

Thanks

It's in the elements that I recovered. But the archive needs to be formatted to allow for an easy link between the source ID and its name.
That's my goal.

Hello, I'm working on an old thing written in VB6 (yes, it still exists) and I need to make some changes but it’s buried very deep in my memory.

So examples of source codes would help me move forward, is there any way to find common ground to obtain the archive of the source codes?

Best regards

Since I have the list of zips, it's feasible to share, but it needs to be filtered first; there is over 14GB of files and only part of it would interest you.
I will see about filtering, but I think you will find VB6+VB.NET+VBA possibly in the zips.
And above all, there are no source descriptions to filter the results.

I started looking into setting up a small website (well, just 2 hours including setting up the PHP server, so not much has been done yet).

Hello,

Thank you NHenry, if that could be done, I hope to find sources in VB.net.

Good luck with the restoration.

Best regards

Thank you in advance for the work that will allow us to recover the sources deposited all along these years of existence. Well done to you.

I'm going to prepare that, but the work is quite substantial anyway.
I haven't completely finished my targets for October yet, and on top of that, a personal issue came up last Tuesday (nothing serious, just some time and energy to spend).

Hello,

Just a quick update, I've started on a page, but it's still too limited to be of any use.
I only have a list that has been somewhat organized, but there's still a long list of personal things to deal with. Here's a sample:

  • Clean up the apartment (everything was a mess, I'm reorganizing it all with the help of Ikea)
  • Finish upgrading my servers to the latest version of Debian
  • Manage my comic book site (currently in almost hiatus)
  • Update my Mastodon instance to 4.3
  • Some personal DIY projects (I need to do something physical, coding is nice, but touching what you create is better)
  • A leak problem that requires handling repairs/insurance
  • Source Codes to redo in archive

In addition to obviously adding things as they come up (like buying Christmas gifts for example).

I haven't forgotten about Source Codes, I just underestimated everything I had to do.
(Besides a realization of things I've set aside for several years coming back in a big wave)

I'll try to make a point once a month here, but no guarantees.

I primarily work in VB6, VB.NET, and C#, but moderation often leads me to other languages.
In VB.NET, be sure to enable "Option Explicit" and "Option Strict".

Thank you, there is a certain nostalgia attached to this site, I find it incredible that such a monument can disappear like this, I remember the joy of downloading win32 codes that I hurried to compile under Visual C++ and the amazed smile of seeing it compile and execute.

Hi,

Your "to do list" is not in the right order: "Source Codes to redo in archive" unfortunately ended up at the bottom of the list, probably a copy-paste issue :-p

Good luck to you and happy holidays, ho ho ho ;-)

Yes, I would like that too, but there are external demands that are present as well :)

Otherwise, to be more serious, the order is not strict, but for now, it is true that the needs and requests I have elsewhere make me put CS a bit aside, and it really pains me.

Happy holidays to all :)

For those who are interested, the archive is being restored at the following address: https://cs.nhenry.fr/

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am still working on it, so it is likely that sometimes it may not work as well. In that case, please try again a little later (usually in 2/3 minutes)
