Hello,

I just switched to a new keyboard, but unfortunately, my new keyboard doesn’t have the FN key that allows access to multitasking options. To solve this, I used software to remap shortcuts and execute programs (e.g., Win + F3 ⇾ launches a VBScript program that increases the volume by 10). So far, no problem; I was planning to recreate each function this way, but when I tried to do Win + F1 to mute/unmute, I realized it opened a page in Edge (it only happens when you press F1) with "how to get help in Windows 11" typed in the search bar. As far as I know, this function is available in many software to easily get help (like in Chrome, Word...) but for example, in Chrome, this function is only available if the browser is open and you are on the browser window, while with Edge, if I press F1 while on the desktop, this page opens. I wanted to know if there is a way to disable this feature or change the shortcut that opens this window.

I also looked in the Edge settings to find shortcuts, but I didn't find anything. I should also mention that if I press F1 on the desktop, it opens the "how to get help in Windows 11" page (See link 1 at the bottom of the message) but if I press F1 while on the Edge browser, it does not open the same page (See link 2 at the bottom of the message).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,

It opens in Edge because Microsoft likes to use its browser - even if we've set another one as default - but it's just the Windows help, it has nothing to do with Edge itself.

It's possible to disable it, but you'll need to tinker with neutralizing the executable responsible... Three options here (in English) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-disable-or-remove-hotkey-f1-for-help-and/3533c72a-9378-4a06-9711-ae8c2d1bfe4f

Someone has created a ready-made file to modify the registry automatically, in the description of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj9wNcROgUY

Best regards.
