Good evening to the community,

I have lost the photo function in the Windows 10 system version 22H2.

How can I recover it?

I have done a new optional update of Windows and I am unable to recover this function built into the system.

I hope you can help me solve this problem.

Thank you in advance.

I wish you a good evening.

Best regards.

D.

    Hello,

My Windows 10 installation is brand new, on January 21, while the bug occurred around the 23rd (great timing ????).

Thanks steph810, but I refuse to tinker with Windows, and it seems to me that we should rather wait... Still on the Microsoft forum, an encouraging post was left yesterday, February 2:

    Google Translation:

    Hello,

The Visual C++ team has identified the issue as a regression in the vclibs framework package that the Photos app and other applications depend on. The problem affects computers with older hardware (that do not support SSE 4.2 instructions). Microsoft is currently working on validating a solution and it should soon be rolled out to affected customers.

      ok,

in the meantime, you can still enable the classic Windows Photo Viewer from Windows 7 integrated into Windows 10 and 11.

      no download, just enable it.

      Activate Classic Windows Photo Viewer

An effective solution has finally been provided on the Microsoft forum by Viatcheslav Alexandrovitch:

It is child’s play: simply install two Visual C++ 2015 UWP packages, the two links are below.

They will take you to the Microsoft Store, you click and install these 2 packages and everything will be back to normal!

All that's left is to add the solution to the dedicated article on CCM so that the whole community can benefit from it ;)

    Hello,

Unfortunately, it is not related to the cumulative update KB5034203 for Windows 10.
Many internet users (myself included) have been affected by the latest update of the Windows Store dated January 23, 2024.

Reported on the Microsoft forum, the phenomenon affects a number of applications: the Photos app, as well as the calculator, Paint 3D... It seems to be an issue of incompatibility or end of support for Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors.

While waiting for a fix, you can, like me, temporarily opt for one of these alternative and free viewers:

or a more comprehensive tool like:

Thank you very much, and for the viewer, yes, it will be helpful!

So, I’ll let it be and it should get sorted out in the next update.

    Thanks again.

    Have a good evening.

    Re:

    Maybe the solution .....

We'll restart, we'll remove the installed version:

Open the Start Menu and search for powershell, open as administrator and copy-paste this command.

     Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Remove-AppxPackage

Normally, the Photos app should be gone.

    Then go here https://store.rg-adguard.net/

Select PackageFamilyName and copy-paste it and search.

     Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe

At the very bottom, choose the version, do not take the latest one, it's buggy!!!!

Download by clicking on the link that ends with .msixbundle

Once downloaded, install it. You will get an alert before the download, which is normal.

Then in the Microsoft Store on your PC, open and click the three dots ... next to your profile and go to settings.

Uncheck the automatic updates for applications.
