Hello everyone,

Thank you to all who respond????

What is the answer, please?

Regarding multiplexing, which of the statements below seems most obvious to you?

  • Multiplexing optimizes the use of links by allowing the use of a composite link whose bandwidth is lower than the sum of the bandwidths of the incident channels
  • Multiplexing allows for any source to be connected to any client connected to the system
  • The bandwidth of the composite link must be at least slightly greater than the sum of the bandwidths of the incident channels

Hello,

actually, there are many modes of multiplexing.

. in frequencies/wavelengths (CWM/DWM over fiber or frequency multiplexing in radio)

. time multiplexing (the ancient PDH and SDH multiplexing, GPON over fiber, where each channel uses the medium for a defined period of time)

. and especially statistical multiplexing: all frame or packet switching networks (X25, frame relay, ATM, Ethernet and IP networks) where each channel uses the shared link as needed and based on availability.

The answers to your questions can therefore be variable:

Answer 1 corresponds to the principle of statistical multiplexing

Answer 3 corresponds to the principle of time multiplexing

Answer 2 makes little sense in multiplexing: an input port corresponds to a unique output port, otherwise it’s a multipoint network like Ethernet, which is not really multiplexing, except on a trunk link between 2 switches, but we won't get into the details of this type of questionnaire.

And there you go....

But damn, the line spacing is so annoying!!
