Compatibility issue between Word and Microsoft 365

Hello,
I am currently writing my master's thesis in History. I recently lost my Word license, the one I had on my computer. However, the university allows us to access Word through Microsoft 365. I opened my file via the website, but there seems to be a compatibility issue. Indeed, there are dotted boxes throughout my text with the letters OBJ inside, and these little squares replace parts of my text. I am quite bothered by this problem and cannot find a solution. Could you help me?
Thank you in advance

Hello,
Is it useful to go through the university to use Word online? It seems to me that it's free for everyone.
If the university gives you a Microsoft 365 license, can't you use that license to install Word?

Hello,
As a preliminary remark, this story about the lost Word license eludes me. It should not have disappeared unless you uninstalled/reinstalled Word or used an unofficial volume license that was deactivated after a certain time; let's note that an Office license purchased from Cdiscount or elsewhere is around 1 or 2 € and is probably the easiest way to solve the problem.
On the substance, we don't know what local version of Word you used and on what (Windows?), and we also don't know what the texts that disappeared correspond to.
The causes can be multiple.
Difference in system (what OS is on the university server?), difference in language, unlikely, or in the font used, same comment if the guilty areas do not use a specific font; however, this could be the case if a particular formatting is used (bold, italic...).
Specific contents: bibliographical notes, exponents, hyperlinks...
Revision or spelling/grammar correction notes (spelling correction seems excluded, "ivrais" would have been censored), "suggestions" from the editor/writer, which could themselves be related to the display/editing mode.
To go further, we must first characterize what is particular about these areas that is not found elsewhere.
What happens if we delete one of these texts and rewrite it exactly the same?

Hello,
Have you checked over here,

Good evening.
And why not buy Microsoft Office again?
Your success in the master's program is worth that investment!

Hello
. Indeed, there are little dotted boxes throughout my text with the three letters OBJ written inside; these little squares replace a part of my text each time.
That's exactly because you're using the web version of Word, the features differ.
As has been widely advised, the simplest solution is to buy the Office suite, less than €1....

Thank you for your advice, I have repurchased the Office suite, the problem is that all the modifications made on Word online do not go back to normal. The boxes with Obj written inside are still there. What should I do?
Thank you in advance

Does this really replace a part of the text, or is it associated with each footnote?

If, through the display menu, you show your document in print preview mode, what does it look like?
