External hard drives suddenly not recognized by my Freebox TV

Hello,
A curious phenomenon.
I have two Western Digital drives on which I store movies (mkv, avi...)
Until a few days ago, I could play these movies on both my Windows PC and from my Freebox.
A few days ago, at the same time, both drives were no longer recognized by the Freebox while they remain perfectly usable on my PC.
It should be noted that they are also not recognized on my neighbors' boxes, which seems to rule out any driver issue with the Freebox firmware being corrupted.
If anyone has an idea of what might have happened and suggestions on what to do. Hello,

    Hello,

    Restart your Freebox (power switch).

    Hello,

    Thank you for this response

I have already restarted the TV Box

I can also restart the server Box, but I doubt its effect on the issue.

Let me remind you that these two disks are also not recognized on my neighbors' boxes.

It seems more like some sort of metadata is missing on the disks.

Moreover, I noticed that the SD Card I inserted into the TV Box works well and that on this occasion, a folder named Android was installed on it. It may be that this is what is missing on my disks or has been deleted.

    Hi

1 - Which Freebox are you talking about? (Mini4k, Revolution, POP, Delta, other?)

2 - Do you connect your drives to the player or to the server?

3 - How are these drives formatted? Ntfs, Fat32, eXtfat, other?

4 - In MBR, GPT, other?

Assuming that Box TV = Player POP, are you using this method to view your drives?

      P.S.: you didn't answer question 4

    Hi,

The WD is on the USB of the Player Pop.

If I follow your link, I don't have a corresponding menu when pressing the Free button.

As for my box, I need to press the "Home" button, go to the Settings button, device preferences, storage.

There, I can see my SD card but not the external hard drive.

When it was working, every time I connected my drive, a message would appear saying "Would you like to read this disk with the file reader...". Since then, nothing.

Regarding your 4th question, I don't know what it refers to. Nothing appears in the disk properties on this topic.

What has been changed?... Have you changed your Freebox?

If I am your link, I don't have a corresponding menu when pressing the Free button.

      I am currently away.

I will test it at home, Thursday or Friday when I also have a POP.

It seems to me, I say it seems to me, that it didn't work either when connecting the disk to the player.

It had been working fine at my place for ages until a week ago.

I suspect an internal corruption of my two drives.

      Hello

It had been working for ages...

Yes, but the boxes are updated remotely at the will of the ISPs, their firmware. If, due to some DRM issues with certain films, they made a poorly executed update...

At least the discs still work on the PC, so all is not lost.

That's what I told Free's support, but the first-level agents know nothing about it. Talking to them about firmware.....

They need to be tested. Have you started this operation...?

    Hello,

I believe I have the answer, and if that's the case, the conclusion is that the TV Player is acting up.

While browsing the web, I came across this topic that dates back to 2017 (which shows that the problem isn't new) https://forum.universfreebox.com/viewtopic.php?t=67585

I thought "why not" and connected my two external drives one after the other to the Freebox server.

On my PC, from "My Freebox OS"/File Explorer, I saw my drive.

I then went to the TV Player, launched VLC/Navigation/Local Network/Freebox server.

Bingo, what do I see...my drive, perfectly accessible, playing my movies without any issue.

What conclusion other than that the current version of the Player's firmware is corrupted?

That's what I was telling you yesterday at 5:24 PM

      Happy for you

      I don't think it's a bug

With the POP, officially, recordings and their playback are done in their Cloud (100 hours included with the option to increase to 500)

If it's not a bug, how do you explain that it worked for months and just stopped overnight?

For me, it's almost certain that there's a flaw in the latest firmware update.

I was saying indeed it seems to me

In fact, it works for me

I connect my external drive via USB to the player

I press the Home (house) button and not Free

I see a 1 displayed to the left of the gear wheel on the right

It informs me that it sees the connection and is analyzing the disk

Then I browse with VLC, I see the entire structure of the disk and I can play the videos that are on it

Is the Player and the box up to date?

    Good evening,

That's how it worked at my place before too.

I contacted Free support, the representative understands the problem but does not have the level to address it. She told me that maybe my disks were not in a compatible format..... anyway, just filling.

The simple fact that it worked on the Player, that it no longer works but that it does work on the server is clear evidence of a problem with the Player or, which is not excluded, with Android.

She is escalating it to the technical service.

I will wait a while to see how this evolves.

In the meantime, I still have my backup solution with the server even though it is less flexible for me.

Yes, my two devices are up to date.

And you, what brand are your disks? Because I wonder if this problem is specific to WD.

      It's a Hitachi 1TB HDD

Note that this drive is not recognized in the Windows network environment while it is detected when connected to the server.

That's the difference I had in mind
