Change Android version on old tablet

Hello,

I have an old Samsung Galaxy TAB A SMT550 and the Android version is 7.1.1.

For the past few days, I have been receiving messages from my bank indicating that I will no longer be able to use their application (for security reasons) unless I upgrade to a more recent version. However, the software update is no longer available. When I go to manual download of updates, after searching, it states that the last update has already been installed (current version T550XXU1CRG1/T5500XA1CRG1).

The Android security patch level is from August 1, 2017.

My tablet is still functioning well for the use I make of it, and I would like to be able to keep it for a little longer.

Thank you in advance for your responses and solutions.

Hello.

If a newer version of Android has not been offered to you, it's because your tablet is not compatible. You might consider rooting it to install a newer version of Android, but it's at your own risk.

Thank you for the response, but how do you root and what are the risks involved?

why are there risks?

If the rooting process goes wrong, your tablet may become unusable and as a result, you won’t be able to install a newer version of Android; this procedure also carries security risks.

but how do you root it?

Don’t count on me to take charge and help you with this kind of procedure; you’ll find a bunch of tutorials online, and also check out this page.

Good luck.

Hello,

Aside from the operational risks that would personally discourage me from engaging in this, there is a hardware limitation (processor...) like on a PC that restricts the possibility of updates.

For instance, in the case we're interested in, it may be possible (or not) to migrate, I'm just saying anything, from Android 7 to 8 or 9 but not beyond, and this will not necessarily resolve the issue.
