Windows XP - Unable to connect to the internet
SolvedHello,
I just reinstalled Windows XP on an Acer laptop. The network connection is fine (cable and Wi-Fi) but I can't connect to the internet with IE.
After running the network diagnostic, I get the message: "Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP, ... probably firewall settings."
I have disabled the firewall but it still doesn't work.

Hi,
Do you have a static IP or a DHCP IP assigned by a router?
What does a ping to Google return in the command line?
And what about with another browser (if you can access one)?

You need at least IE 8 and its update or Firefox 52 ESR

Yes, I saw that I need IE to have Windows Update, I installed the update but IE still doesn't work (same network diagnosis: firewall...)
After launching the update, the version of IE is 8.0.6001.18702 and the "update version" line is 0.

Apparently, it's because IE only supports TLS 1.0, which is no longer accepted for https

Thanks kaumune for this information. I don't think there is a workaround (?).
It seems a bit compromised then. Damn.
I don't think Windows Update can be activated without going through IE? (because that's the most annoying part).

I have an IP obtained via DHCP from my box.
I pinged google.com and there were no errors! (0% packet loss)
I therefore suppose that the blockage comes from IE (?)
I can't get another browser. I've tried with Firefox, Chrome, Opera and each time, I only download the setup program for the download.
