Opera installation issue

Hello everyone,

I've been using the Opera browser for quite some time now, and I encountered a technical issue today:
a sudden bug with my search engine "duckduckgo" which suddenly turned into "yahoo search."
I tried to fix the problem by attempting to change the search engine back, but without success; there was no way to resolve the issue in the Opera settings: the search engine is set to "duckduckgo," however.
Consequently, I uninstalled the browser for a reinstallation.
However, I am facing another problem which is reinstalling Opera. It says "Insufficient privileges for installation to the desired location."

Is anyone able to resolve this bug? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi kaneeagle,

I followed your advice, but unfortunately it still doesn't work...

Hi bazfile,

Sorry for the late response, busy weekend. So, here are the links to the 2 files:

- FRST: https://www.cjoint.com/c/LFgq7G1NKEG
- Addition: https://www.cjoint.com/c/LFgrabVDYnG

The FRST and Addition reports are incomplete, start over and wait for the end of the analysis.

When the analysis was finished, I waited 5 minutes before closing the window.
So, here are the new files:

- Addition: https://www.cjoint.com/c/LFguM1GDzdG

Always incomplete; you have to wait for the two messages (one for FRST and one for addition) that tell you the analysis is complete.

Well, I hope this time the files will be good, as I once again waited for the analyses, whether for FRST or Addition, to be completed (The 2 texts at the end of the analysis: """Analysis completed. FRST.txt is saved in the folder where FRST is located.""" and """Addition.txt is saved in the folder where FRST is located."""):

Always incomplete, especially the addition file; on the FRST file, only the header is missing, and we can see that there are issues with Opera.
I have a few questions:
How many antivirus do you have? I see Avast and Zone Alarm; the latter usually causes quite a few problems.
You have Netlimiter, which can also cause problems, especially when paired with Zone Alarm; do you really need it?
Are you aware that you have DNS which are generally configured by a torrent client?

The Addition report being absent, I cannot see everything, and it's annoying; I'm not asking you to run a scan with an antivirus since you already did it with Eset Online Scanner, so for starters, test your hard drive with CrystalDiskInfo and use the following color codes to interpret the results:

Here, I'm waiting for your answers to my questions so I can move on.

Before the analysis, I have this time disabled Avast and ZoneAlarm as well as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free) and NetLimiter. I have also disconnected the internet. There should therefore be nothing in the background running to prevent the analysis from proceeding smoothly, normally.
Here are the 2 files:

- FRST: https://www.cjoint.com/c/LFhoNgf5xbG
- Addition: https://www.cjoint.com/c/LFhoNUVNpyG

PS: I don’t know how to configure the DNS ...
PS2: everything is blue with the test with CrystalInfo, so no problem on that side.
PS3: if you tell me again that it's incomplete, I’ll give you a spanking lol

The reports are complete. :)

Apparently, your version of Windows is not genuine; you used a crack that has infected your PC. Your version of Windows is not up to date; it dates back to autumn 2018, so it's no wonder you are experiencing "Insufficient Privileges" problems.
The price of a license can be found on THIS PAGE.

Can you tell me if your version of Windows is unofficial or genuine and purchased?

You have two antivirus programs on your PC.
===You should never have two antivirus programs on a PC; this can cause bugs that could even lead to the PC being blocked.==

I recommend uninstalling Avast Free and Zone Alarm Free; Windows 10 already has its own antivirus that is effective and sufficient, especially when Windows is up to date, which is not the case.

I look forward to your response, and I will write a script based on what you say.

Unofficial. Okay, I can see things a bit more clearly now. Thanks for your help with that, anyway.
However, this is the first time someone has told me that Windows Defender is enough, whereas before, I was told the opposite (that I needed an antivirus, [Avast antivirus] + a firewall [ZoneAlarm firewall only and not antivirus here], which is true since I have been using these 2 programs for years [since the 2000s], and this is the first time I've had this kind of issue...
Anyway, the next step is to deal with the updates, right?

I give you several options; it's up to you to see what you want to do or not.

Read this message in full before starting.
However, it's the first time someone tells me that Windows Defender is enough

Yes, Windows Defender is more than enough; there is also a firewall in Windows https://www.malekal.com/windows-defender-windows-10-11-le-dossier-complet/
You don't only have ZoneAlarm Free Firewall but also ZoneAlarm Security which, I believe, includes an antivirus; all of that doesn’t mix well, and the incomplete analysis of FRST was a symptom of that.

Try to update your current version of Windows 10 via Windows Update; if that doesn't work, you'll have to do it differently. That is, before updating Windows, you will need to purchase a license (see my previous message) and officially activate Windows 10; I recommend getting a Windows 10 Pro license key.

With your license key, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key, and enter the product key.

To update Windows 10.

Go to Windows Update or go to this page, click on Update now; this will start downloading the Microsoft tool, and you just need to open it. It will allow you to update Windows 10 to the latest version and will tell you if it's compatible with your PC; be aware that this update takes some time.

To remove the crack, which should be done first before the update and the license key, it's up to you to decide what you want to do; keep your cracked version or buy a Windows license.

This script removes the Windows crack and completely uninstalls Opera from your PC, as there are traces left behind.

Procedure to follow in the order given:

1- Open FRST as an administrator; to do this, right-click on FRST and choose run as administrator
2 - Copy the entire script in the box below:
Start::

3- Once the script is copied, click on Fix; FRST automatically takes the script from the clipboard.

Let the fix complete; once it’s finished, you will be asked to restart your PC, do so as soon as prompted, see below.
Then, once your computer is restarted:
4- You will have a Fixlog file on your desktop; then, upload these reports to https://www.cjoint.com/, see this tutorial, then provide the link generated by Cjoint in your next message.

Okay, I'll check that tomorrow. I also feel like we need to record everything before this manipulation.
Have a nice evening.

Hello everyone,

bazfile: For the procedure "2-", in which file should I copy the entire script that is in the box?
0
bazfile Posted messages 58439 Registration date   Status Modérateur Last intervention   20 245

You copy the text in the box and click on correct that’s all, everything is clearly explained no need to try to do more than what is asked.

Hello,

I launched FRST and the software updated itself automatically, and it has disappeared. I tried to re-download it using your first link but I can’t get it to launch...

bazfile Posted messages 58439 Registration date   Status Modérateur Last intervention   20 245

It’s your multiple antivirus programs that are deleting it; add FRST to the exceptions of the antivirus.

Can I try installing Opera to see if its installation works?

It's still not installing... it keeps giving me the same initial message...

Well, the initial goal was to avoid the time of restoring to factory settings, which would have taken me half a day at most... In the end, it would have taken me less time with that lol. I'll know for next time.

In any case, thank you all so much for helping me and for taking the time to answer my questions, but right now I really need my computer to work.

So, I wish you a good day and see you soon.

Well, the initial goal was to avoid the time spent restoring to factory settings

As long as you haven't activated Windows legally and updated Windows 10, you'll have this problem. You have all the necessary explanations to do this; it avoids having to reinstall everything, and it's therefore quicker than a factory restore, which deletes everything.

Have a great day too.

Hello,
Download FRST, once downloaded save it to the desktop then right-click on FRST and select Run as administrator you will have this:
Click on Scan

Attention, wait for the messages indicating that the scan is complete to appear

At the end of the scan you will have two text files on the desktop FRST and Addition

Then send the FRST and ADDITION reports to CJOINT see THIS TUTORIAL then provide the two links generated by Cjoint in your response.
