Strange "new SIM validation" message

Validate the phone number associated with your Android phone
When you set up a Google account, you can provide us with the phone number associated with your phone. We then verify that it is indeed yours.

For your security, we will periodically perform a re-verification to ensure that this phone number still belongs to you. You may then receive texts from Google or notice automatic texts being sent to Google. These messages indicate, for example, that Google is currently validating the phone number of the device in question.

You can choose to enable or disable the validation of this phone number and select a validation method.

Mad's response looks like a copy/paste of an account setting...

But without being sourced, it's not verifiable... so once again, be cautious with these unverifiable incentives....
