Insert Disc / No Media USB Drive

Hello,

I am using Windows 10.

I was asked to "repair" a USB flash drive that was working just recently but I can't get it to work.
The drive is displayed in "This PC" or in the disk manager, but when I try to open it, I get the message "Insert a disk into drive 'drive name'."
The drive appears empty with 0/0 bytes available or "no media" in the disk manager.
I cannot format it or attempt a check for errors on the drive.
I tried a "chkdsk" but Windows tells me "cannot open volume for direct access."
I also tried uninstalling and reconnecting the drive or changing the drive letter, but with no success.

Are there any other options I could try to reopen this USB flash drive and possibly recover the data on it?

Thank you.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 94.0

Hello,

Please provide some references for this USB drive, brand model, its name, capacity, etc... everything that could help identify it... not all USB drives are real USB drives... Personally, I have two that are recognized as CD drives and two others that are mixed: CD + 2GB drive, they are like that from the factory...

You can try "Chip genius" http://www.flashdrive-repair.com/2019/08/chipgenius-v4190319.html
or Chip easy https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/ChipEasy.shtml

The goal is mainly to find out which chip this drive is made of...

Hello, isn't there a risk of erasing the content on the key?

Otherwise, the UMPTool from Chipsbank detects the key as 15-F: Unknown_flash, CE:0, FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Flash ID Unknown.(0011)

Yes, production tools erase keys.

But sometimes you have no choice if you want to save the key.

It is always recommended not to keep your last resort data on a USB key, but to back it up elsewhere.

Otherwise, with the tool you can try a Quick Format in Settings

And try Recuva afterwards.

Hi,

The latest version of APTool may also be useful, before UMPTool

Chipsbank APTool v7200 (2020-05-20) (It acts like a Hard reset)

https://www.usbdev.ru/files/chipsbank/cbm2099aptool/

Then try the latest version of UMPTool

Chipsbank CBM2099 UMPTool v7200 (2020-09-02) (It reprograms)

https://www.usbdev.ru/files/chipsbank/cbm2099umptool/

Here is an idea of the tool: https://www.usbdev.ru/files/chipsbank/cbm2099umptool/
Chipsbank CBM2099 UMPTool v7200 (2020-09-02)

Production program for working with Chipsbank controllers CBM2099, CBM2099E, CBM2099S, CBM2199, CBM2199A, CBM2199C, CBM2199E, CBM2199EB, CBM2199ES, CBM2199S, CBM2199SC, as well as previous generation chips: CBM2380, CBM2098P, CBM2098EP, CBM2098EP

UMPTool allows you to perform in-depth analysis of flash memory and recover a flash drive with broken cells. In other words, in UMPTool, you can repair a USB flash drive that Chipsbank APTool cannot fix.

When executed, the utility loads its own driver CBMUSBSys.sys onto the USB drive, including the USBSpeedUp.exe service.

Detailed instructions for recovering a USB flash drive in this utility are available at the link - Instructions for repairing a CBM2098 flash drive in Chipsbank UMPTool.

The versions of the utilities will be divided into blocks, where I will write about the compatible controller models.

you can try this http://www.flashdrive-repair.com/2012/12/how-to-repair-usb-flash-drive-in-three.html

there is a risk of losing the content... not certain, but possible.

If ChipGénius reads it, it is not completely dead... it's probably its internal firmware that is damaged.

It should also be noted that a flash drive has a lifespan, especially in terms of write cycles...

It can be corrupted... depending on the devices it was plugged into, removed too quickly, without ejection, etc...
