Hello everyone!
I want to buy sapphire jewelry from the USA. I plan to use FedEx but I've been told there are customs issues. Has anyone done this before? Which carrier do you recommend?
Thank you
Emilia

The time I bought in the USA, the seller went through an international payment service (Pitney Bowes) and the famous US auction platform...
We pay everything upfront, but it's up to the seller's goodwill to use this service.
Another method is to hire a carrier to pick up the goods in the US. UPS and FedEx do this very well.
The advantage is that you can request a quote and you know exactly what it will cost you. You must be sure of the seller who can refuse.
And then you can let the seller handle it... and it can be a surprise.. You may have export taxes, import taxes, and of course VAT..
For precious stones, there may also be specific taxes, which would need to be verified with French customs. -
Hi Contrariness!
Thank you for your response
I was actually planning to hire a carrier :)
Have you done it before? -
Big hassle… jewelry bought in the USA and stuck in customs for 3 weeks… I strongly advise against it… FedEx doesn’t clear jewelry, and the seller's site tells me that I’ve already settled everything in my order. In short, we’re going in circles…
