Hello,
Everything is in the title, I would like to change my 6900K processor for a 9700K. I know that they share the same Socket 1151, but does my motherboard support this processor since it was released during the 6th generation of Intel CPUs?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Best regards
Raphael

You have an ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA motherboard that indeed has a socket 1151. But are you sure you have a 6900K processor? The processor that is close is the i7 6900K, which has a socket 2011. It might be an i7 6700K, which is equipped with a socket 1151. In any case, motherboards meant for 6th and 7th generation CPUs are not compatible with 8th and 9th generation CPUs and vice versa, even though they have the same socket 1151. This is how Intel designed it. So you cannot replace your CPU with an i7 9700K.
