Hello,
I have a question, for some of my Word documents I am unable to open them. A message appears: "Cannot open the document: the user does not have access rights." Knowing that the first time this message was displayed I requested access and it did not work. These are class notes that I took this year with the same computer and under this same session. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.
Have a nice day!

Hello,
Right-click on the file name/Read the information, if the little padlock is closed, click on it, enter your administrator password, it will open and you will be able to modify the rights, according to your choice.
Now, if the files are owned by your school, they are protected and you will not be able to access them. An example:
If you can modify, click on "Apply to all" and all your identical files will open... if you have Word installed on your Mac ;-)
To modify, use the little arrows of the drop-down menus.
When it's urgent, it's already too late (Talleyrand)
When all has failed, read the manual ;)

It would be useful to clarify the context a bit: which version of Office? What update level? Which version of macOS?
It seems to be a malfunction, but it is not easy to diagnose with so little data. It is sometimes related to a hasty document closure, sometimes to slight corruption...
You can still try to open these documents with LibreOffice, then save them again under a new name, but still in .docx, of course...
