ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 not charging

Hello,

I just bought a used Asus C302.
The previous owner explained to me that it only works on power since their company provided it to them in 2017.
I took it apart to check if there was a battery and if it was connected, and it turned out to be the case.

Does anyone have an idea where the problem might come from? Is it worth buying a new battery?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
You have tools at your disposal:
    Ctrl+Alt+T opens the crosh terminal
    type the command battery_test 0
    this will display, for example:
    Battery is discharging (96.13% left)
    Battery health: 73.41%

Battery health gives you the current capacity of the battery compared to its new state. (battery wear rate)

Next, in Chrome OS, you have very precise statistical data.
In the Chrome search bar, type the following address:
    chrome://power/

You will get a table with a lot of information.

If you don't get a response from the battery, it may be a connector issue or a faulty BMS in the battery preventing it from charging.

I don't know how much you paid for it, but a new battery will cost you at least €80 and there is no guarantee that it will work again if the problem is elsewhere...

Thank you for your response. Is there a way to know where the problem comes from if it's not the battery? And maybe to fix it?
I bought it at the same price as the battery, so clearly it wouldn't be worth it.

Here is what I get when I type battery_test 0 and battery_firmware info

      chrome://power/:

I saw the battery on AliExpress for 30 euros. Is it worth ordering it based on the results?

      Thank you for your help.

There is a good chance that it is the battery, but it is not certain.
One thing is for sure: it is empty and the seller didn’t tell you any stories: it has only 17 charge cycles on the counter. So is it because it doesn’t charge due to a faulty component, or is it the charging circuit upstream of the battery that is defective? In the first case, replacing the battery is the solution; in the second case, it would be pointless.

As for batteries on Aliexpress, I have no idea. Personally, I am very wary of offers that are too tempting from Chinese sellers; you may not receive it anytime soon (and not just because the Suez Canal is currently blocked)... It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk.

That being said, this Chromebook for €80, even without a battery, is still quite a good deal... it’s less pleasant with a wire attached, but you’ll get used to it.
