I can't scroll through my photos on my external hard drive.

Question

Hello,  I regularly transfer photos from my computer to my external hard drive. As long as they are still on the computer's hard drive, there are no problems: I can view them in "manual" scrolling (click) or in slideshow. But on the external hard drive, nothing! The > and < are gone, and the slideshow "stutters" and shows the same photo all the time. What should I do? Thank you in advance for your help.

Good evening,  Not knowing which software you use to view your photos, it is difficult to make a guess.  Suggestions:  - Use the arrow keys on the keyboard, which work with almost all software.  - Test another software (IrfanView, Microsoft Photos, Paint 3D, Windows Media Player)  Best regards

Thank you for your response. I don't know which software I use to view my photos. I have Windows 10 and I use Chrome, and my computer is an Asus. In short, it's standard. Do these details give you any clue? Are the arrow keys the ones on the right and bottom of the keyboard, next to the number pad? Thank you for your help. P.S.: As you can tell, I am NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL at computers!

Good evening,  I would be surprised if using either transfer mode makes a difference, but you never know. Like you, I use both and have not encountered the issue you are facing after trying.  I suggest you try these new attempts:  1) make a copy of any photo folder on the internal drive and name it, for example, test 1 and test 2 (to be created on the internal drive)  - then transfer to the external drive using method n°1 to test 1 and method n°2 to test 2  - over the coming days and weeks, observe if there is any difference in behavior between the two folders on the external drive when you use the arrows.  2) copy test 1 and test 2 using both methods to another medium (USB stick for example) and make the same observation.  3) connect your external drive to another PC (at a friend's place or elsewhere) and check what happens with folders other than test 1 and test 2. You can do this test first and let me know what happens.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good evening bg62,  I had to be away for several days (despite the reconfinement...) and it’s only tonight (or this morning...), after my return, that I discovered your email.  First of all, thank you very much for the two links you sent me. I would like to ask one more question: should I install one of the two programs first and then connect the external hard drive, or should the external drive be connected to the computer at the time of downloading?  This may seem like a stupid question (I believe the answer is in the first part of the question) but since I am utterly ignorant about computers, I prefer to ask!  Thanks again and best regards.

Good evening bg62,I just installed Irfanview. It took me 1 minute. First, I went directly to the external hard drive after plugging it in, and I noticed that I still couldn't scroll through the photos. Then, I understood that I had to go ON Irfanview and look at the photos from the external hard drive (or any other folder or file) THROUGH Irfanview!So it works!Thanks again for your valuable help.
