Hello,
I just got a MacBook 2017. I’m not very familiar with the model yet since I used to have an old MacBook Pro 2012 that hasn’t received an update since 2015. Anyway, my question is about the keyboard function on my new laptop. I noticed that I can't press and hold a letter to repeat it. Is this something specific to the MacBook, or is there a way I can change the keyboard settings so that I can repeat a letter by pressing it without having to click on it multiple times?

Hello,
In the Apple menu, at the top left of the screen, choose System Preferences and then, in the window that opens, click on Keyboard. In the Keyboard tab, you can access the key repeat settings.

I tried to change the different sliders for "key repeat" and "delay until repeat" but all it does is suggest another character in a little bubble above the letter faster or slower. In any case, I can still only type one letter at a time by holding down the desired letter key..

To facilitate interventions in general, it's good to specify the exact model of the computer and the version of the system being used.
Apart from that, though: you haven't "messed around" with other things in the keyboard preferences. For example, we can see this item reappearing in Shortcuts with lots of checkboxes (checked on my end)...

To be exact, I have the Macbook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017), Mac OS Mojave, version 10.14.6.
I see the "keyboard" option in the "shortcuts" section. All options are checked but I don't see anything that could be changed. Anyway, I'll try some tests at worst.
