problem with epson printer

Question

Hello everyone,

I have an EPSON STYLUS 740. Since I'm using Windows 2000 Pro, I downloaded the drivers from the official website. My printer is connected to a parallel port. When I go to the utilities to check the ink level for example, I get a transmission error with the printer. However, everything is properly connected and powered on. I can't print anything!! Help!

Click on the first suggested site and download the software.
Follow the instructions, we can access the printer's counter by right-clicking at the bottom right of the screen on the icon corresponding to the software...

In fact, all EPSON printers have an internal counter that counts each time you
start the printer and there is a re-priming of the ink in the heads, this to avoid clogging.
The ink is then drawn by a small pump and flows through a small tube to a foam sponge at the bottom of the "body".
Similarly, when you print, the surplus ink takes the same path.
When this counter reaches its maximum value, the printer goes into failure assuming that the sponge needs to be replaced.
At this point, you get a message indicating that a printer element is at the end of its life, please take it to the Epson maintenance service.
The technician electronically resets the counters to zero and replaces the sponge: cost of the operation,
about 130 €, and the printer is OK.
So there is a brilliant solution that allows you to reset this counter to 0, it’s a button sequence that involves pressing several buttons at the same time: for an RX600 press "power"-"Black and White" and "color" at the same time, and when a message appears, press the off button (power button).
Each Epson printer has a different button sequence.
Another solution: download the "SSC service utility" software from:

it’s free by choosing the C4x series.
After downloading and opening the SSC Service Utility program, you will see a window showing the cartridge levels: you need to close this program to get a blue-red printer icon at the bottom right in the taskbar.
Right-click on this icon – different options will be presented, click on "Protection counter" and click on "Show current value"
At this point, you will get the information "current value" with a number.
By selecting "Protection counter" again, click on "Reset protection counter" then also "Clear Counteroverflow" You have thus reset the copy counter and the ink overflow counter
in the sponge to zero.
Turn off the printer and the PC and restart.
The printer works again.
In the SSC Service Utility manual (in English only), you will find the key sequences to manually reset
the counters to 0.
Search on "Google" then "SSC service utility"
Now there remains the problem of the sponge that has not been replaced: rest assured it is far from being saturated,
as long as ink does not flow underneath, there is some margin.
And, if necessary, you can open it up to clean the sponge with plenty of water (with gloves) and put it back in place once dry.
I did this manipulation, it’s delicate but doable.
