Hello,
The web radios stopped working this morning on my RX-V477, and I have to pay a ransom of €3 to VTUNER to access a feature that was included in the original price of the device, as Yamaha has not developed an update for older products, likely hoping that we will invest in new ones. This is called planned obsolescence and it is illegal under French law. (the only radio I can listen to is the one I manually added, and I regret not being informed of this change beforehand, as the function is now locked)
Refusing to pay for a service owed by Yamaha, I contacted customer service to express my anger and my intention to launch a boycott campaign, as well as a legal procedure (matter of principle).
You can contact Yamaha at this address: https://member.europe.yamaha.com/contact (1000 characters max …)
Copy of my message addressed to Yamaha:
“This morning, the radios stopped working on my RX-V477. VTUNER informs me that I need to pay to continue using the service initially included in the price of the device.
The Yamaha website mentions that the service provider has changed, which requires an update, but the RX-V477 is not compatible with it.
In reality, Yamaha does not want to pay for the development of an update for this old product in the hope of pushing the customer to buy a new one.
This is planned obsolescence and, above all, a deep disdain for customers!
I hereby demand, through this message, that you implement a solution to allow me to once again access the web radios on my RX-V477 for free.
Failing this, I will consider that Yamaha does not respect its customers and the legislation in force in France. This will lead me to widely share my opinion as well as to encourage a boycott of all your brand's products.”

Hello,
I am encountering the same problem with a CRX-N560.
Yamaha is indeed the only one responsible for this denial of service.
vTuner was a provider for Yamaha.
Is a class action possible?
Thank you for replying for a collective defense that could change the balance of power against Yamaha.
Have a nice day

I have a RX-A1010 that is starting to be outdated but I am extremely satisfied with it! Much more reliable than all the AV brands I've had since the late 80s
You are right in essence, and I would like to take the liberty of forwarding your email to express my dissatisfaction to Yamaha, but nothing is free and I think that $3/year is not a big deal, we should put it into perspective! Compared to music streaming services, at least it's ad-free... and account activation is immediate. Good service from vtuner.

Hello,
I just conducted a successful test by copying a file from vtuner onto my box's hard drive.
This file is recognized by the amplifier, and after selecting the file, the amplifier streams the radio.
This file contains only one line with the radio's address:
Example of file: Couleur 3.m3u
However, there is no playback from a USB stick.

Hey, hi Eric,
Your test seems really interesting, I want to give you 3 euros :-D!
I’m going to be a bit of a pain, but I have one more question, if you're bored:
- Just to be sure, you place the file on your box's drive, then from your amp, you use the network as the playback source, then you choose the box, and finally you get to the specific file, which is indeed played by your amp?
So, you have to place the file for each of the radios you want to listen to, but, well, I still like it :o)
Charlou.

Hello,
Indeed, Yamaha France made an announcement on its website regarding this, they are migrating to a new service (Airable).
Some equipment can be updated, others - like mine, an RX-V473 amplifier - cannot.
List of compatible and incompatible equipment: https://fr.yamaha.com/fr/news_events/2019/0305_av_update_on_internet_radio_station_access.html
I wrote to vTuner to find out if by contributing, the "old" equipment still benefits from the service (which I find to be of very good quality).
See you later
Guillaume

Hello,
For your information, the YCast project (vTuner server emulation) in its dev branch:
https://github.com/milaq/YCast/tree/dev
is operational in my case (RX-477).
I can once again listen to my favorite radios with the amplifier independently.
You need:
- to have a DNS server on your local network (in my case, a Synology NAS)
- a server that will host the YCast daemon, which is written in Python (for me, my home automation box Jeedom)
- some networking and Python knowledge to get everything done successfully.
Best regards,
FredY/Alfred

Hello Yannick,
It would be good to mention the error message in order to get you a solution.
Have you tried from another web browser to see if the problem persists?
Best regards,
ChariduP - Have a nice day :)

I own a RX-V577, same problem, no more vtuner radio, I had a favorite station which is gone, I think a general boycott campaign of Yamaha products is in order and I won't hesitate, they could at least provide an update for these devices bought for me 6 years ago, it's planned obsolescence, I really regret buying a Yamaha piano for over 10,000 euros, it's over, the next one won't be a Yamaha.
Hello,
I am also very disappointed by YAMAHA's way of doing things.
I just replied to this proposal from Que Choisir and prepared my letter with acknowledgment of receipt.

An action to encourage to put an end to these unacceptable practices.

Hello,
In the coming weeks, I should be able to test with an iPhone on my RN500, not sure if it’s the same setup as yours, by the way, please write here the version of the OS, check if AirPlay exists?

Hello,
Thank you, I resolved the issue. I had reset all my devices but it didn’t change anything, and then I tried a factory reset of the box (4K SFR), not just a simple restart, and now everything works, even though I had never changed the settings of the box...

Good evening Fredy, can you detail your configuration for Ycast? I have the same setup as you but I haven't configured the DNS server yet. Is it complicated to make Synology/Jeedom/AV app communicate with each other? Thank you.
Hello Pachira,
For the DNS server part on the Synology, here are some screenshots.
What is masked in blue is the IP address where Ycast is running.
What is masked in green is the IP address of the Synology itself.
Then I use the Linux machine where I have Jeedom to run the YCast daemon, but it is not integrated into Jeedom. I connect to it via ssh directly and run:
python3 -m ycast -d -c /mnt/Syno/station.yml &
from the directory where Ycast-dev is copied.
Syno is a directory that I mounted with Samba to be able to edit station.yml from a computer. To start it, this is not essential; the station.yml file can also be in Ycast-dev.
Hoping that this helps.
Best regards,
FredY

Hello FredYam,
thank you for your advice, I didn't encounter any issues with the DNS part on the Syno, but I'm having trouble using ycast.
I have a Raspberry Pi running Domoticz, and I wanted to take the opportunity to install ycast on it. I've placed the ycast files in my documents, I've opened LXterminal to run the commands but I'm not getting anywhere... I'm not very familiar with Python, could you guide me a bit because I'm stuck...
thanks a lot

Hello,
What does it display when you type the python command I mentioned?
I assume python3 is properly installed, the command python3 -V should return something like "Python 3.5.x".
I also assume that the file station.yml is present and correct (refer to the YCast documentation for the format).

A complete tutorial in French is available for those with a basic knowledge (Raspberry Pi):

Same for me, I can no longer access my favorites from my Yamaha amplifier because the service has become paid. Well, 3€ a year is reasonable. But it's a bit annoying to pay for something that was free until now, and especially to pay for a service that can be found for free absolutely everywhere on the net... So I won't pay. The solution? A Bluetooth receiver connected to an input on the amp. You connect your phone to this receiver and you stream any sound, including the sound from your favorite radio stations :)
Other solutions: stream from an Android TV box like a Mibox, or simply connect your phone with a jack cable, or even the good old FM antenna! We already pay the TV/radio license fee, we’re not going to cough up for all this again just because Yamaha doesn't update its old equipment :p

Hello,
A HiFi device purchased for, among other things, access to Internet Radios becomes obsolete if the associated service provided by vTuner is discontinued without personalized explanations from Yamaha.
Moreover, my attempt to pay the ransom has failed (transaction refused).
My sense of humor has its limits even though Yamaha takes the time to respond to the email.
I would prefer them to intervene with vTuner to restore the service.
Surely it's a contractual negotiation that has gone wrong, like with Sony in 2015.
What are we doing concretely?

Basically, we install YCast :-)
It works even better than the vTuner service:
- with some radios I didn't have the Artist/Title info => now I have this info on the Yamaha display
- we can configure (manually for now) links like podcasts (from RSS feeds, for example) => this avoids having to retrieve the podcast from a server and read the podcast from that server, we can play the podcast directly on the Yamaha without all that hassle.
In short, I was a bit annoyed at first, but now that YCast works well I'm satisfied.

Hello,
Unfortunately no, I haven't seen a tutorial. You will indeed need some equipment and network configuration (not necessarily any tinkering).
First, you need a local DNS server, for example, either install it on a Linux server or use a NAS that offers this service (like Synology),... and add an entry for vtuner.com on that DNS server.
The goal is to ensure that requests to vtuner.com go to a machine on your network (which will host the YCast app) instead of going to vtuner.com.
If you get stuck at this point, yes, it's going to be tough to move on.

Hello,
Same situation for me with an HTR 4067 (based RX-477).
I’m trying to set up my own vtuner "server" based on:
https://github.com/milaq/YCast
Unfortunately, it’s not working yet :-(
The amp communicates well with the server (installed a local DNS with an entry for vtuner.com, manually modified the amp configuration to point to this DNS).
I can retrieve the directory list which displays correctly on the amp, but then when I press OK on this directory it says [NO CONTENT] (it’s not happy :-)).
I’m open to any info if someone manages to make it work.

Thank you to the people who are developing the YCast project. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to manage that at the moment and I am forced to use iTunes to send my favorite station streams to my Yamaha amplifier via Airplay.
What makes me angry in this situation is that Yamaha is doing nothing to address the problem. I tried to read an M3U file with a list of radios via the USB port, which works well on the old Orange internet radios, but Yamaha devices are not compatible with this very useful function (or is the syntax particular?)
It's fine for Vtuner to charge for its list, but not for users to be able to manually add streams to their device. We should be able to do this directly from the web server of the amplifier.
Moreover, it would have been courteous to warn in advance to add my favorite stations, as I can still listen to the radios I had manually added via Vtuner.
In short, zero points for Yamaha and Vtuner!

Yes, I agree, I don't understand why Yamaha didn't just offer a favorites radio URL editor from the start (or now). It doesn't seem that complicated.
By relying on an external service, they exposed themselves to this type of issue (and in fact, it has already happened several times that the Vtuner service was completely down).

For the CRX-N560, which is not on the list eligible for the new Airable service, you need to be a geek to install Y cast, which I can't find online.
Yamaha is abandoning its customers like old socks and is not living up to its legendary reputation at all..
I used to listen to Internet radio to catch the best radio in the world according to the Twitter boss http://www.slate.fr/story/151271/fip-radio-jack-dorsey-fipettes
Since the vTuner service was shut down and Yamaha's denial, I can no longer listen to it on my HI-FI system even though vTuner is freely accessible on the Internet

Some hack should be possible, but my skill level is too low to implement it.

It's no longer $3, it's $6 now and after that it will become like a Deezer or Spotify subscription!!!!!
Same for a CD-N500. I’ve adjusted the 3 $ on vTuner and I have access to all the stations again, including my favorites. Of course, you have to log onto their site after creating an account (if you haven't done so already).
The cost isn’t exorbitant (2.70 € + likely bank fees) but indeed, Yamaha hasn’t been very honest about this by leaving the owners of "older" models stranded. They’re also not very reassuring by asking us to pay on vTuner since they’re not sure it will work.
Luckily, there are forums to exchange ideas!
Thanks to the contributors!
