Hello,

"This document has been deleted or is not accessible at the moment" is the message that appears when I try to open my file. It shows up in my recent Word files, but I can't open it and it no longer appears in my Finder. Please help me, I worked for hours and I'm afraid everything is lost...

Some clarifications might be helpful: which version of Word is it? which update level? which version of macOS? where was the document stored? what is the status of your backups (Time Machine or others)?

In the "recent documents" section of Word, we only have aliases. If they point to deleted documents, it makes sense that they can't be opened. However, this still gives some indications of where the document was located during its last use.

As with any application, if the file has been deleted (voluntarily or not), it's the backups that you need to look at...

      Hello,
This is version 15.36 of Word and 10.13.6 of MacOS. I think the document was saved on OneDrive...

First (and foremost), you should update your version of Office. Currently, you should be on version 16.16.9 or 16.24, depending on whether it's Office 2016 or 2019. There is an update every month; not doing them means risking not having bug fixes or adaptations to new versions of macOS, not to mention potential new features. Version 10.36 dates from July 2017, almost two years without any updates (even though there's an automated system that takes care of that), respect! ;-)

If your document was saved on OneDrive, check via the "File" menu > "Browse Version History" to see what's going on.

Otherwise, by positioning yourself on the local "OneDrive" folder (it should be at the root of your user account, the "little house") and launching Time Machine, you should be able to recover the version saved during the last Time Machine backup.

If you have no backup, get back to work immediately to redo your document before you forget what you added. And think about implementing a serious backup policy, not forgetting to update your applications...

Thank you for your reply. I must be really bad at this, but I can’t seem to get it right… I updated to version 16.16.9, but when I open the file, "Browse Versions" is greyed out (so I can't click on it). Additionally, when I open Time Machine, I still can't find my document that I am sure I saved.

Are you sure the document was saved on OneDrive?

As for Time Machine, you need to make sure you are in the correct folder before launching the application. When you go to "File" > "Open Recent" > "Other...", what is the indicated path for the document?
