What does the term "data" mean? Can I delete it?

Hello,
the recordings I make with Audacity regularly give me files called "data" in addition to the project. Can I delete them without any problem? I have always kept them, but they might be cluttering my disk...

Data = data (French)

No, you need to keep these files for Audacity to function properly as well as your audio projects.
