Ethernet Driver for XP SP3 32-bit

Question

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion desktop PC (tower) running Windows XP sp3 - 32 bit (obsolete and not updated) that I haven't used for over 5 years. I know a young person who dreams of getting this computer to upgrade it to Windows 7 or 10. I'm considering giving it to him as a gift, but first, I wanted to check if it still works well.
Two days ago, I powered on the PC and noticed that I no longer had Internet access and that the integrated HP 630 DVD drive refused to start. In the device manager, the "Ethernet controller" appears with a yellow exclamation mark.

I followed the procedure recommended by kaneagle on March 19, 2017, which is:

"Download and install --> 7Zip

Download this driver --> Ethernet
and place it in your documents.

Right-click on --> win_xp_2k3_32-14.8.0.5a.zip
Choose --> 7Zip
Choose --> extract to "win_xp_2k3_32-14.8.0.5a\"

Go to Device Manager.
Right-click on the Ethernet controller
Update Driver
No, not this time, Next
Install from a list or specific location, Next
Include this location in the search
Browse
Go to your documents
Go to the unzipped driver folder --> win_xp_2k3_32-14.8.0.5a
Select the folder --> win_xp_2k3_32"

Up to this point, everything went well, but when I clicked "Next," I was informed:
"Cannot install this hardware - The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

A small clarification >> It is "Windows XP Professional 32 bits - sp3 and a right-click on "Ethernet controller" indicates that no driver is installed. Thank you again.

Hello,  This number corresponds to the wireless Try this one --> Realtek   In the device manager What do you have under network adapters?

Check if the date and time of the PC are up to date.  You cannot go online whether it is via wireless or ethernet (network cable)?

Shut down the PC
Unplug the modem (box) and router from the wall socket
Wait a few minutes
Plug the modem and router back into the wall socket
Wait for all the LEDs to be on
Start the PC.

If the problem persists:
Perform a network stack reset:
Go to Start
Run
Type --> cmd and OK.

Type the 2 commands and press enter after each:
--> netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
--> netsh winsock reset

Restart the PC.

If it still doesn't work:
Reset IE 8
Launch IE
Tools
Internet Options
Security tab, click on --> Reset all zones to default level
Advanced tab, click on --> Reset.... (default IE settings)
Accept, apply and OK.

Sorry for the late update, but yesterday, I had to leave my home until late in the evening.
However, before my departure, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could connect only on Google Chrome, but via WiFi. It doesn't work wired. As for IE8, it doesn't work either on WiFi or wired.
So it was only this morning that I followed all your recommendations to the letter, and nothing has changed. It's still the same.
Out of curiosity, I wanted to check if I had retrieved the 'Ethernet controller' with its yellow '!' in the device manager >> Nothing has changed. However, when I click on "Control Panel" after restarting the PC, I now have a window that says "HIPZ402" is missing.
Well, all of this is starting to be a lot, and I think that, unfortunately for the young person who dreamed of it, I'm going to throw this PC in the trash unless you come up with other suggestions.
Thank you very much for your help, and ultimately, I do have a small plus in that I have regained the WiFi that wasn't working before.

Open the tower
Disconnect all the connections to the DVD drive
Turn on the PC
The DVD drive will no longer be recognized
Shut down the PC again
Reconnect everything to the DVD drive
Turn on the PC and see what happens.
