H264 Video Playback Solved

Question

Hello,   I'm having trouble opening or converting a video file with the H264 extension in VLC.    Suggestions?  Thank you!

Hello, a file with the extension h264, I don't know, a codec is generally encapsulated in a container like mpeg4 (mp4 extension) with other audio and data codecs. Give me more details about the origin of your file

Hello,
The file comes from a surveillance camera and the file saved on the SD memory card has the extension "H264".
I went into the VLC options (tools/preferences/all settings/Input Codec/Demuxer/H264) and adjusted the setting to 25 frames per second (a random number).

I cannot open the file and I am also unable to convert it to another format like MPEG4.

That’s why I’m seeking help because I won’t install the camera if I can’t read the file in case of a problem!

Got it, I'm not really knowledgeable about video surveillance. I suppose these are proprietary formats that are not intended to be exported.

Hi.

As Glandu says, "a codec is generally encapsulated in a container."
Perhaps by encapsulating it in a container like mkv with mkvmerge.
An h264 file can be obtained by demultiplexing.
An attempt costs nothing.
