Hello everyone!

I got a NAS (Synology DS111) and I don't really understand the system. I would like to watch movies from the NAS on the TV, but I can't see an HDMI port on it!

I have a Chromecast stick; is it through this that the data can be transmitted?
Thank you for your comments.

    Hello,

A NAS is like a big hard drive, but it can be accessed over a local network or the internet.
Sometimes you can read the contents of a NAS via a USB port.*
Trying to connect a hard drive with an HDMI port... it's probably not going to fit very well.
A NAS does not have a built-in graphical interface, so you won't be able to watch movies just by plugging in an HDMI port.

    The steps to follow are:

    - Connect your NAS to your internet router (ISP) + plug in the power cord (if it has one)
    - Wait for it to start up
    - Access it with your computer to add your folders, documents, movies, photos..
(go to the file manager > click on Network > it should display, right click to open the web page for your NAS configuration or click to open it like a hard drive.)

And for it to be read on your TV, it needs to be connected to your network or the internet, so you can open your NAS from your television and watch your photos, movies, etc.

It's easier to connect a DVD player to the internet. The NAS should appear somewhere in the main menu of your DVD player.

EVEN EASIER? Download from the Play Store only if an app allows you to access your NAS from your phone and stream content from the NAS to your Chromecast, with your phone casting.

I hope I was able to provide you with information about what a NAS is and the procedure for connecting to it and streaming content.

If the TV is equipped with DLNA or UPnP, by connecting it to the network and after a few settings, it will be able to read videos from the NAS..

If the TV is not equipped with the necessary features, a decoding BOX will need to be placed between the NAS and the TV

Here is a short presentation on the subject https://www.son-video.com/guide/dlna-mode-d-emploi

      and another one https://www.figer.com/Publications/dlna.htm#liste-des-services-dlna-sur-un-t%C3%A9l%C3%A9viseur

Here is the type of Box in question https://www.cdiscount.com/high-tech/accessoires/x96mini-smart-android-7-1-2-tv-box-amlogic-s905w-q/f-1062841-tom5411346274645.html
