Hello,

After justifying my text, large spaces appear between the words.
I would like to be able to remove them and have an automatic line break.

Thank you very much.

Configuration: Macintosh / Firefox 57.0

Which version of Word is being referred to? What is the update level? On which version of Mac OS X?

That's the whole problem with justification: the spaces between words adjust so that the line is completely "filled."

If you want to avoid this and maintain natural spacing, you need to keep left (or right) alignment. You can also "limit the case" by allowing automatic hyphenation of words. The command can be found in the "Tools" menu under the label "Hyphenation..." or "Word Break..." (depending on the version).

Hello,

I have Word 2016, with the latest update Version 16.9 (180116) on Mac OS High Sierra version 10.13.2.

On Windows, Word automatically manages to keep the same spacing. There is an option that allows not to fill the entire line.
This option is unavailable on Mac.

I tried word hyphenation and it didn’t help.

Thank you for your help.

Your request is becoming a bit paradoxical, then, since it is no longer about justification.

If your text is aligned to the right or to the left, or even centered, there is no adjustment of spaces. Therefore, we are no longer dealing with a "justified" text (which is the case when we request that all line beginnings and endings are aligned). The four buttons corresponding to these different options can be found in the "Home" tab of the ribbon, in the "Paragraph" group...

If you prefer, you can also make the adjustment via the "Format" menu > "Paragraph...": the choice is then made through a dropdown menu on the first line of the screen "Indentation and spacing"
