Extract a string after a hyphen Solved

Hello,

I'm looking to extract a string of characters after a hyphen, but the problem is that my cells may contain a totally variable number of characters and one or more hyphens.

Hello,  To extract the first part of your string in cell A1  =LEFT(A1;SEARCH("-";A1)-1)  -- A+ Mike-31  A period of failure is an ideal time to sow the seeds of knowledge.

And if you want the text after the last hyphen
=MID(A1;SEARCH("|";SUBSTITUTE(A1;"-";"|";LEN(A1)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1;"-";"))))+1;99)
array formula to validate with Ctrl+Shift+Enter (it will automatically be enclosed in curly braces)

and to complete, if you want to split the string in two after the first dash, for the right part

=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-LEN( LEFT(A1,SEARCH("-",A1))))

Hello everyone,  "Between us, I believe the requester has ...... "dash" ;-) "  Well done, you made me laugh!! ;))  Come on, it's the new year, I'm also giving the magic function without formula for Excel 2013:  You type the text after the dash in the cell to the right (for example B1 if the data is in column A) you select all the cells in column B stopping at the last filled line in A. Then: Data tab, Data Tools group, Flash Fill button... and that's it.  m@rina -- How it works is a public forum. I do not respond to questions asked in private messages.
