Hello,

I have a contact on WhatsApp for whom I cannot see the status or the "last seen." My husband and daughter also have this contact and they can see it. I thought the person had blocked me and I sent a message to check, and about a minute later the two little ticks appeared and then turned blue. So I'm not blocked since the person is receiving the messages. What could the explanation be? Isn't it possible to hide one's status from just one person??? Thank you

It is indeed possible to block individuals just for their profiles or statuses, while communication with that contact continues without any issues.

To be honest, I don't know, but could it be possible that it's because this person removed you from their contacts?

Hello, I've thought about it, but in that case, would she see the messages I send her? That's what raises the question.

Yes, yes, you can definitely send a WhatsApp message to someone who doesn't have you in their contacts. For the first message, the app offers to block the sender or add them to contacts. But it can do nothing and even have a conversation with you without adding you. To really stop receiving messages from someone, you really have to block them. A bit like with SMS or Skype or... Anyway.

I just tried it with my daughter by removing her from my contacts; she can still see the last seen times and I can see hers too, so there's apparently no link either.

I think the best response is to "address the person directly and ask the question especially since she seems to be a friend of your family."
Regarding settings: In privacy on WhatsApp you have 3 options related to status (I have an iPhone). Through one of them, you can choose the contacts you allow to see your status. That could be an answer to your question. Normally this option is two-way. So if you apply the restriction to one person, you won't be able to see their status either. But this last principle doesn't work: I still see the status of people who are not allowed to see mine.
