Random blocking of Putty in console mode

Hello,

I have a recurring problem with Putty for configuring my new switches in console mode.
I've noticed this for quite some time now, and this occurs on different machines and with different Cisco cables and USB to serial adapters, so it shouldn't normally be a hardware issue.

I open a console in serial port after connecting my Cisco console RJ45 to serial cable + USB to serial adapter on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine.

No problems opening the connection and starting to configure the switch.
The problem arises randomly and blocks communication: nothing happens in the input window anymore.
Closing Putty and reopening it doesn't work, and the only way I found to reconnect is to restart the PC...

I've searched on Google and several tutorials show the same procedure as mine, and they keep the Putty configuration (serial menu) as default, like I do...

My questions:
- do you have any idea how to fix the problem with Putty?
- if not, is it possible to reset the COM serial communications without rebooting the PC (at least I save 5 minutes to regain access to my switch)?
- should I use something other than Putty for console connections?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 60.0.3112.113

Thank you, I will try that.

By the way, did you know about the issue I'm talking about?
I only have this problem with Putty in console mode.

When I manage a switch in production, I use SSH or sometimes Telnet depending on the models, and I have never encountered any blocking or issues there.

      Never noticed,
maybe it's your serial port that's acting up sometimes.

Well, the thing is I've noticed it over the last few years on the 5 laptops I've had in my hands, so I think there must be something else.
On these 5 laptops, I already had different Cisco console cables and USB serial adapters, so it wouldn't be that either in my opinion...

I hope that with Tera Term I won't have the problem anymore, but I still have doubts.

By any chance, do you know how to force the machine to forget the serial connection with my switch? The only method I have right now is to reboot.
So there must be a way to reset the part of the COM connections.

Well, you can always close your connection and restart it in the software, if it's still unresponsive,
Even go as far as killing it in the task manager....

What needs to be killed in the task manager?
I can close Putty, but it's true that I didn't check if putty.exe was still running afterwards.

It seems excessive to me and I think that on my old machines I had checked it and that the process wasn't running anymore.
