Hello, as the title indicates, I would like to know if a DDR5 graphics card would be compatible with a DDR4 motherboard? And if it would be compatible with an i3-6100 6th generation with 8GB of DDR4?

Thank you for your response.

Hello,

I think you're mixing things up.

The GDDR5 is the video memory or Graphics memory, which is for the Graphics Card and DDR4 is the RAM or more commonly known as RAM (the famous sticks)

These are things that have nothing to do with each other, so there's no story about "compatibility".

If I understood correctly, you have a setup with an i3-6100, so your Motherboard logically works with DDR4 RAM, as for the video memory of the Graphics Card, there’s no problem, your Motherboard can handle GDDR5.

Regarding what's important for buying and adding a GPU to a setup, it is:

- That your Motherboard has a PCI-E 16x slot
- The power of your PSU, to ensure it can power the new GPU.
- And the size of the GPU and your case, to make sure it fits.

Music is not just heard, it is felt.

So I'm planning to buy an ASUS GTX 960, how can I check the space in the case and whether I have a PCI-E 16x slot?
