Hello
I have a Mio c220 GPS and I can’t update it for the radar (speed trap) information. I did register online, but when I reach the 4th step it says my serial number is already in use, even though my GPS is new!!!
If someone could help me....
Thanks in advance

I have GPS like you, I went to a forum. I found another way to update the speed cameras. follow the instructions and it works without problems.. and thanking Renaud
Experience feedback for the MIO c220 France.
To go back to my previous posts, I bought this GPS three months ago now. It was shipped with Miomap version 3.3.
As planned, I activated the GPS speed camera function. Nothing easier, you just need to create an account with Mio (free for a year) and run miosync 1.2 (explained on the site) after having pre-configured it to download the speed camera updates.
All you have to do is go to the advanced menu to check the radar box (attention, if you do not get the signal, the function will not appear).
Apparently everything seems perfect. But if you look a little closer, you will see that many radars are indicated at their location but they are mainly indicated in the wrong direction. And there, a problem because your GPS will not warn you……
In the beginning, I spent my time changing the radar direction manually but, as soon as Mio recharges the database, it changes direction again.
I also lost all the radars after a database reload.
Finally, disaster!!!! I thought I had managed to solve the problem by reloading Miomap3.3 but the hope was short lived…
I tried to contact Mio’s technical support but, it’s also a disaster there. The operator listened to my problem and told me she would send the solution by e-mail. 30 minutes later, I had the e-mail and the answer: reload the database……
So I decided to bypass their database and go through Wikango’s database
I will therefore explain the steps to follow and I must admit that it works rather well.
And it’s within reach of a beginner
Basically, you need to be able to access the GPS’s operating system (Windows CE) on your gps.
For that, you will need to download two software programs (Mio-C250-Mio-Transfer and MioTransferHackC250)
Then, you will need to generate the database with a software (csv2asc) and copy/paste it into your GPS.
1: download "Mio-C250-Mio-Transfer" from Mio’s site http://www.mio-tech.be/fr/support/C250-telechargements.php
2: Download "MioTransferHackC250" (be careful not to take "Mio_Transfer_Hack" which doesn’t work) from: http://www.fredlynx.info/util.php?Clef=4&Child=4&NbPage=2&Page=1
3: Download "csv2asc" from http://miojaco.mioskins.net/
4: Install "mio-c250-moi-transfer" on your computer.
5: Replace the "miotransfer.exe" file of the previous program with the one from "Mio Transferhackc250"
You can now connect your gps to the USB port (it is recognized as a new peripheral) and run "mio transfer". You will now see the Windows CE tree structure inside your GPS.
6: erase the miomap directory on your GPS. No problem, an error message appears on your gps and it seems to be locked.
7: while leaving your gps connected to the USB port, run the reinstall program of your gps that you got on the CD that came with the device. The installation is quite long, especially at the end (the last segment of the installation bar can take 15 minutes).
8: restart your device. It will stay stuck on the startup page. This is normal. Press the power button for 10 seconds and choose the reboot option. Your device restarts and is now free of all radars.
9: run the "csv2asc" program which searches for the speed camera updates on the alertgps site which places the radars in the correct direction and well positioned.
You can use the help provided with the software (F1 key).
10: the last software will generate two files: "POIUpdates.upd" and "SpeedcamUpdates.spud"
11: reuse "miotransfer" to access the GPS tree.
- delete the file poiupdates.upd located in miomap/miotc/pois/ and replace with the one generated by csv2asc
- delete the file speedcamupdates.spud located in miomap/poi/ and replace with the one generated by csv2asc
12: restart the GPS and that’s it.
Ps: it is necessary to delete the miomap file from your gps (step 6) otherwise Mio’s database is added to AlertGPS’s one. Doing this, I was sure to start from a clean base. You risk nothing, at worst you still have the reinstall CD
There was probably a simpler method but, it works…
Attention, after this manipulation, you can no longer use the miosync 1.2 tool to update your database unless you reinstall Miomap 3.3 on your gps via the installation CD.
Thus, AlertGPS’s database is updated every month (Mio’s every day) but for my part, I prefer to have the radars perfectly positioned
For those who are skeptical, go see on your gps at these coordinates
50.143; 3.373. the radar is located at Beauvois and it measures in the west-east direction and in your GPS?
Another example: coordinates 50.2959; 3.8535, the radar measures in the west-east direction. And at yours…
And last example, in Tours (47.3962; 0.70727), on your GPS there are at least 5 radars at these coordinates but all are configured to warn you in the Poitiers-Paris direction while it measures and flashes in the other direction of travel. Too sure of my GPS, this radar cost me 1 point and 45€ (penalty 91 km/h instead of 90)
I hope I have been helpful and good luck to the Mio c220 owner
Thanks to Gpspassion for their forums….

Very well, but I don't have a function to generate the upd file. For those who didn't understand: Download the updates manually from alerte gps.com. Then, when you open csv2asc, you put the downloaded compressed file in the first line, you click on 1.2.3. then you search for the .asc files in the destination folder (line 3 of the program). If like me you can't generate an upd file, you download the following program: miomap autovelox (you find it on the mio forums). It will generate an upd file that you can put on your GPS with the mio transfer program.
Hello Renaud, and congratulations on this procedure. I’m encountering a problem: once miotransfer is installed and GPS is connected via USB to the PC, the GPS tree on the right is OK but the PC tree on the left shows nothing, so it’s impossible to copy!
Do you see where this bug comes from?
Thanks,
Marcel.

Hello,
Just in case, I almost had the same issue when re-reading the number printed behind the device.
The digit 6 is a poorly printed 5!
You must double-check and compare with the number printed and clearly legible on the box.
That might be a lead...
