Reconnect the file history reader

Good evening,
SOS, I can no longer open any of my files! I have a message saying that the File History drive has been disconnected for too long. Is that why??? For your information, I just got kicked off Windows support because I'm using Microsoft Word Starter 2010, the free version, so they refuse to help me! In the meantime, I have a child with a disability who needs the computer...
So thank you in advance to anyone who can help us...

    Hello,

    Normally, the history reader is there to save a copy of the old versions of files for restoration purposes.
    Original files must be present on your PC.
    Otherwise: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US

      And thank you. I'll go check it out.
      My files are indeed there but they won't open anymore. They install in the taskbar and refuse to come out. We can just see them very small...
      Do you have any idea?

      What version of Windows do you have? Have you recently switched to Windows 10?
      Try opening Word by itself first. Does it open?
      Then open a file from Word.

        Thank you very much for your response. I just got out of the slump by following a tutorial on the internet. Yes, it seems to be an issue related to the transition to Windows 10. The taskbar was frozen and no window would open anymore (neither Word nor others).
        Anyway, here we go again... until the next time.
        Can you just tell me if you think it would be better to go back to Windows 7???
